still soiling after disimpaction

We following the disimpaction regime for my son and got to watery stage for 2 days before dropping down to maintenance dose. He’s been doing really well with sitting on the potty to do a soft poo every day since but he is still soiling in his nappies.

Could this be because his bowel has been stretched during constipation? Or in response to having the laxido as he is on quite a big dose for him.

Thank you in advance

No its because you reduced too quickly. You need to get to the maximum dose for their age stay there until you reach watery stools with no lumps consistently for a few days before you start reducing the doses down extremely slowly ie one dose every few days until you reach a suitable maintenance dose to remain on.

Is this correct? The advice given to me consistently (and on the ERIC website) is that you only need 1 instance of watery stool with bits before reducing slowly to the maintenance dose? Currently disimpacting but been on max dose for 3 days with no watery poo yet.

it took us 5 days and we allowed for almost 2 days of water poo. I think the advice can be conflicting. In my sons case the soiling is lessening so it isn’t the case that we reduced too quickly.

You should ideally try and get three consecutive days so that you can be sure they are completely cleared out. Reducing too quickly will send the bowel into shock and you will essentially miss finding the correct maintenance dose your child needs to be on.

I think we reduced too quickly. What do you mean by saying that it will send the bowel into shock? Thanks!

They will spasm.

Resulting in a new round of constipation?

or soiling?

We definitely have a new round of constipation after 3 days of absolutely watery poo. Reduced to quickly to maintenance of 4 from 12.
