Help After disimpacting

Hi I’m looking for some realistic expectations after disimpacting my 4 year old son.

We have done a couple of disimpations in quick succession over the last 2 months. We got to rusty water with some some food bits in. We started reducing a week ago. We are now on 3 sachets of cosmocol per day and 10ml Senna. However, it still feels like we are on 8 sachets. His poos are mostly type 7 and he’s pooing approximately 6-7 times a day. Some very small amounts and some good sizes.

My question is; could this be overflow type poo? or do we need time for the body to adjust and settle down? He’s getting the majority of it in the potty and only having poo accidents if we’re out.

Some advice would be great, thanks x

You might want to reduce the cosmocol by half a sachet to see if that helps. When you reduced the doses down did you reduce by 1 sachet every 3 days? Did you stay at the maximum dose for 3 days when you reached rusty water looking poo?

Hi, yes we stayed at the maximum dose for 3 days. We reduced to 6 for a couple of days then spoke to the ERIC helpline who said to go to 4 and reduce every 3 days from there.

Just feel like all the advice is different and NICE guidance say reduce by half straight away. I will reduce by half a sachet today then. In your experience does that help? Do you think the Senna would be causing more bowel movements?

Thanks x

You may want to reduce the senna as well, if it doesnt work then you can just increase the amount again, it wont hurt. Slow reduction is best, it is about finding the best maintenance dose that works well.

Thank you, it’s such a minefield isn’t it! Then in the back of my mind I wonder if the disimpaction has even worked. I suppose time will tell x

also we will have to insist them to try pooping again after their large poop.bcoz children starts to play once they poop small/big thinking its over.but their colon might not have gotten fully empty. so its better to ask them to poop and try once they say they are done pooping. for your note , you will see tiny drops of yellow liquid if their bowel gets fully emptied. if its not, poop is still their

Thanks for that. He’s doing more small ones in the afternoon. How long did it take your daughter to reduce the amount she was pooing?
