Oxybutynin 10ml

Hi hoping someone could help me.

My son currently takes 10ml of oxybutynin ×2 day. He was on neditol capsules 4mg before which didn't help. He was initially started on 5ml oxybutynin, which had very effect overall. So we've been on the higher dose around a month now and he has become increasingly hyperactive. He is also still having accidents day and night.

He was born with his urethra in the wrong place, so had reconstructive surgery age 1. His foreskin came undone so he had another op for circumcision. By this point he was at nursery and wet himself constantly it's like he couldn't feel it.

Fast forward to when he's in reception, day time is much better however urgency was always there. A lot fewer accidents, but night time he wasn't dry. I went to the gp just to touch base and they said it takes time etc. Do a urinalysis just to rule it out, he was found to have an infection. That was the 1st of many. G.P referred him back to urology he has a scan and flow test. Scan is clear, he flow suggested the tube had narrowed. So he's put under general to investigate this, urethra is fine. So that's when medication started.

In the midst of everything he's lost his confidence and school children can be unkind without reason let alone when they've got something go on. He's now 6 1/2

My concern is that the hyperactivity is impacting school, eating and just generally. I have a baby and I worry that while he doesn't seem very present harm could come to either of them.

Has anyone else experienced this side effect?

Does it level out over time?

What other medicines are available?

Hi my son has an overactive bladder. He was prescribed oxybutinin and we had a bad experience with it. For him his character changed and he became very angry and aggressive it was horrible and was definitely that as within a very short time of stopping he was back to normal. Unfortunately we have since tried two other meds that are meant to be used for the same reason and he has had the same effect with both

The consultant and nurses say this is rare but has been recorded to happen in a very small number of patients

We are now waiting to see if teh surgeons will agree to further tests that may then lead to them agreeing or not to try Botox in the bladder. We have been seeing specialists for 3 years now and I am desperate to find a solution for my son.

I'm sorry you have had such a tough time, hang on in there and if you feel it's having a bad effect I would speak to someone. But also trust your instincts. My decision was I'd rather be dealing with wee than a child who wasn't himself at all xx

Hi there, Sorry to hear about your experiences. My daughter was diagnosed with OAB age 5. We saw a consultant in London who offered us the use of a TENS machine instead of medication. She wears it daily for at least 30 minutes and the idea is it calms the nerves to her bladder down. We’ve definitely seen an improvement and she’s recently become dry at night too! Also there are absolutely no side effects! Worth a try! Good luck xx

Ah that's great re the tens! I'm glad it's worked for you we tried it for 4 months but sadly no improvement

Did you buy that yourself, were you given guidance around it?

We were given the TENS machine by the hospital continence nurse and given advice about how to use it, what setting and for how long.
