DLA

Hi I have a 7 year old with chronic constipation/faecal impaction due to withholding poo. He soils and wets himself up to 9 times a day. Also has daytime and night time wetting due to the constipation. Was wondering if anyone ya successfully claimed DLA for their child. I have been told by the continence nurse my son is entitled to it but we were refused. My son clearly has care needs above and beyond a child of his age.

I have applied twice and on both occasions have been rejected because my child does not have a learning disability nor does he have a care plan at school. His school had supported my claims but still rejected? I’m really disappointed

Hi I have just been to tribunal for my 14 year old daughter who suffers with chronic constipation, faeal/urine incontinence, chronic back pain caused by the years of Constipation, she has zero pelvic floor muscles has been under physiotherapy teams for over a year with no improvement. She suffers with severe anxiety, panic attacks and low mood and she didn’t get any element of care or mobility. She struggles to even carry her school bag, she can’t stand or walk huge distances due to pain. Her attendance is very low and education and progression is affected daily. She needs attention through the night with her pain and anxiety but she got a big fat NO from tribunal because she doesn’t have any learning needs! I don’t get why this is of any significant my daughter has physical and emotional needs but hey they dismissed it all

To be honest my daughter has stopped holding now thank god she just needed that one clear out to realise every stool won't be so hard to push , the odd time she might get scared and try hold it but every day she's going without any meds , it's so stressful and I just got to the stage where I gave the meds and just ignored the toilet thing until she was ready the more pressure I put on her made her hold more

I have tried everything with him. Last week I had to take him doctors because his gut was so big and he was in a lot of discomfort. Basically it was because it was full of poo. He refuses the Movicol because it gives him stomach cramps. Day and night he has to wear containment products.

Would u take him to local hosp ? She had to get X-ray done her bowels were swollen and one badly blocked up , my gp told me she was ok the same day and 4 days before the surgeon in hosp also had to have a look at her before we left and explained to stay on movical I didn't as she hadn't had any other problems going just the diet they said stay away from everything White like bread pasta patatoes etc plenty of water

I have applied twice. Sent in everything I had. But for some reason was turned down twice. On both occasions have told me me not awarded because he doesn’t have a learning disability. Apparently it’s normal a 7 year old wets himself day and night according to the DLA decision maker.
