Scary First session near Priapism with trimix...Help!

Last week I went to my urologists office for initial injection training for trimix injection. First injection was .2 and worked great, but in fact too great. I am certainly not particularly well endowed and performed fine, but at 3 hours there was no subsidence and I became concerned. I was prepared and took a sudafed but no immediate effect so I headed to the ER. At 4 hours I began to lose rigidity and I was not forced to go to the ER for treatment.

So I told my urologist I was going to reduce the dosage, but his recommendation is to discontinue injections completely. Problem is this is the only thing that has really worked in 3 years since the removal of my prostate. I am reluctant to give up on something that works, but also reluctant to ignore my doctor who is obviously erring towards conservatism as he should.

Has anyone had a bad first experience, but been able to cut the dosage and continue without chronic priapism?

Trimix is not the only injectable. There's bimix and Edex, and different formulations thereof where the individual components' quantity are adjusted. I suggest asking your doctor about exploring these and other alternatives. If the doctor is not willing, perhaps it is time to find one whose expertise includes penile rehab.

This is the Delmarva Peninsula....we're lucky to find a place to get a flu shot! Urologists are not even in large supply, lot alone "Men's Health". Women seem to have all the specialists. When I really need help I go to Johns Hopkins in Balto. I am headed there next week as I have unfortunately reached bio-chemical recurrence levels after RRP. Does this stuff even work after you start hormone therapy (I know about the low libido part of it)?

I agree with BerkshireBear. There is room for trials of different strengths and formulations. Either push your urologist to work with you on this or find another. Or, better yet if you have one, contact a Men's Health Practice where they might have a broader vision.

To answer your question, yes I have done different doses of both TriMix and BiMix. The recommended first dose of TriMix I got did put me in the ER. I found a new doctor after that experience who was a little more conservative.

Also, TriMix and BiMix aren’t fixed ratios. Your doctor should be willing to vary the percentages of each chemical to help you get what you need.

Good luck.

Took 'a sudafed'? Sloan Kettering suggests taking four sudafed pills for priapism related to trimix.

Also includes warnings about use of other ED pills at the same time or near the trimix injections.

I use injections I had one last for over 4 hours you should reduce the the amount and try that I reduce the amount I was using and it was fine your body gets used to it so I had to increase it back to normal dose just persevere go to a different doctor if you're not happy with him I can't see if there's any problem with reducing the dosage if it works

happened to me twice. Reduce dosage in half. Be prepared to take sudafed 30-60 at 2 hr mark.

Are you still using it or did you quit? Were both times while you were adjusting dosage? I'm going all the way down to .05 half would be .1. I'm going to talk to my Doc first. Thanks for your reply.

Not sure what your Urologist is thinking. I am 78 and the poster child for using trimix successfully after removal of the prostate and after an initial priapism experience when using trimix. In fact, I had to receive shots from the ER physician to reduce my erection. Do not give up but rather reduce the dosage. My pharmacist also gave me a smaller needle to use. This stuff works for a large number of men, and the results are great.

Thank you....why the smaller needle? Shorter needle or different gauge?

Smaller needle smaller owie.

birkshire bear is giving you good advice, there are numerous drugs and hundreds of combinations ! That’s why this stuff comes from a Custom Pharmacy and cost more! You didn’t say anything about pain, when you passed 3 hours you only said still rigid but did it ever become painful that is the true sign of a problem. Once I found the right dosage I think it’s a great option and for me an erection lastly 3 hours isn’t unusual. As long as it doesn’t hurt I ignore it

Some pain, but not too bad. My urologist is trying to work me back into a cancellation so we can discuss in more detail. The long and short of it, I am in possession of the drugs so it is ultimately up to me no matter what he says, but better to have him on my side and I would like him to write a script for Phenylephrine as well just to be safe...Thanks for your comment.

you are welcome, If nothing else the second script would give you peace of mind, I am 73 and find it to be a good solution. Just make sure you get thorough training, hitting the10 and 2 spots is crucial and don’t get impatient when making adjustments. Some people think going from 5 to 6 on the syringes is a small step but when you due the math it’s a 20+%increase in drugs. Move slowly and you will find the magic dose of Trimix. If the problem continues, the 3rd drug is usually the culprit and Bimix usually helps. Don’t give up, be persistent and know that all doctors today are so afraid of being sued they are going to give you ultra conservative Pat answers and never tell you what they really think . Take control, if you miss it just a trip to ER

Not the end of the world good luck

Have you tried cutting your dosage down by 1/ 2 or more then working back up to desired level ? Also I keep and take Sudafed at the ready.

trimix52 profile image
trimix52 in reply to SammySaxon

That's what I intend to do. My doctor seems worried about how fast it acted. I still think the dosage was too high.

Using Trimix does act quickly but that's ok. It the post effect that needs to be yours well our concern.. Thus i reduce the dose and always have sudafed at hand (the one purchased from behind the counter) and do take them after sex.

just reduce your Trimix dose down to .1 mil. if it stays up too long and figure out what is good for you.
