Hi everyone Help

I was seizure free for 11 months after temp lobe surgery , they are back worse than they were before , medication for seizures was phenytoin 300 at night and lamorigine 300 twice a day , first time ever I got a blood test and the level of phenytoin was only 4 , so my dosage was increased from 300 to 325 now 350 , blood test came back and it’s only showing 9 ,my doctor keeps asking do I take my medication , I’m very stricked my medication , does anyone know why this happens , I also take

Atorvastatin and clopidogrel , thyroxine does this affect the results of my blood test and a wee idea should split my phenytoin dosage and take 175 phenytoin 7am and then 175 7pm along with all the other , help it’s very hard coming to terms being back to taking seizures again ( thanks in advance )

Perhaps they are all metabolised via the liver? ( you’d need to check with doctor/pharmacist). If so the liver’s probably got so efficient at breaking down the other drugs quickly that it is doing the same with the phenytoin?

Think you need to insist to doctor that you ARE taking the phenytoin and discuss with him whether you should take higher dose or different drug.

Pharmokinetics of phenytoin are complex at best of times!
