A standard appointment?

Yesterday at 10.30 pm, I had the worst Grand Mal ever, with blood rushing from my head. My wife rang and a doctor arrived from NHS 24 at 2.30 pm. He found blood in my urine and told me to get an appointment with my local doctor in two weeks time and that he would send a covering letter. I rang the doctor and the receptionist told me "this is a standard appointment and must be booked on that day, they no longer book appointments in advance.

What do people think of this idea?

My Dr's surgery has always worked to this system which I think is rubbish. The only time I can get an appointment in advance is when the GP requests it.

My old GP was exactly the same. It's a ridiculously inconvenient system in my opinion.
