Hello Toni,

I am sorry to read that you are a fello sufferer.

To go a year epilepsy free is excellent news. I can hardly go a day sometimes.

Epilepsy can come preceded by an aura (warning) sometimes and other times right out of the blue.

Likewise when a tonic clonic arrives as you have very minimistically described it can be a one off for some.

Getting anxious, worrying about and talking about all time is the very worst thing for you to do, as these three things are the worst things for all of us epilepsy sufferers to do. What do they do is to turn the electricity on in the brain and you can have another attack.

The bottom line is to forget what has happened and to carry on leading a normal happy life.

Have you had a drink of alcohol or have you experienced flashing lights recently?

Kind regards

Richard

Hi richard thankyou for your comment. I was so proud going a year without a seizure but since i had that one on saturday im just so scared to go anywere on my own and all i want to do is sleep but i just keep calm and carry on because i think its stress that triggers everything off because all of the tests came back clear and i was confused as was my neurologist.

Thanks

Toni

Hi Toni.

Sorry to hear this. I recently went 7 years (!!) without seizures, only to have two last year in August an October. I had applied for a provisional driving licence, was about to start trying for a baby, and all of a sudden I didn't know what to do!

It was an unfortunate hiccup that certainly set myself and my husband on edge for a while, but I've now gone another year seizure free. Not only that but I am expecting a baby in May! Luckily I was referred to a great neurologist who has really been helpful (I was living in a different area when I had seizures before).

When I had the two seizures I was extremely exhausted (tiredness has always been my main trigger). One time I was jet lagged and still had to work, etc, the other time I had been ill which had caused me to only have about 4hours sleep and most probably pass the tablets I had taken.

It's worth speaking to a doctor, but I think what my case shows is that what has happened doesn't mean you are completely off track. Hopefully it is just a temporary blip.

Amy

Do you feel a certain sensation of sorts when you are about to have one? My son does and then immediately takes a tablet clobazam 10mg which we split in half to help absorption into bloodstream. He always carries water and this extra medication to HALT a seizure. Ask your Doc or epilepsy nurse for some. He never leaves home without it and the tablet and water is positioned throughout the rooms in our home, so that one is always handy just in case! Please ask me if there is anything else I can tell you.

Since I had my breakthrough seizures last year, I have been taking clobazam 10mg in emergencies too. I don't think you need to break it up, it acts within 20mins anyway!!!

I take it if I have had a very bad nights sleep, if I have an upset stomach and pass my regular meds or if I start feeling bad in some way that I suspect might be a seizure coming on.
