We’re often asked this question but for most people there is no explanation. Sometimes the reason epilepsy develops is clear. It could be because of brain damage caused by a difficult birth; a severe blow to the head; a stroke; or an infection of the brain such as meningitis. But for most people - six out of ten, in fact - there is no known cause.

My husband had his first seizure in 1999. Then seizure free for seven years. Since 2006, he has experienced a combination of absence seizures, complex partial seizures and grand mal seizures. Last week he was diagnosed with a low grade tumour in his parietal lobe - once he has had his video telemetry test we will find out whether his seizures are single focal point or multi focal point. If single, then most likely the tumour is causing them. However, if multi focal then who knows.

We never thought we'd be in a position to get an answer as previous neurologists had always said "its one of those things". Hopefully we will get the answer and treatment my hubby requires.

I hope your journey is less stressful.
