Brivaracetam

Hi,

Is there anyone on here been changed to briviact from keppra? If so, did the change improve your condition?

I have been on lamictal and keppra for years at the highest doses. Unfortunately, although my condition is stable with few seizures over months I have yet to get seizure freedom, so my consultant has suggested a change to Brivaracetam.

I am giving it alot of thought because I have been on keppra for so long I am afraid the change does not work.

Any advice on experiences are welcome,.

Indirectly been on quite a range of epilepsy medications, I always found that Keppra really slowed my whole system down, Briviact I have been on from April 2018, has been quite good, I am also teamed up with Vimpat as well. One seizure since then. I have Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy, for 52 years. I have various medical conditions, but it could partly explain my essential tremors in my hands, although been rather eventful in medical happenings since then, nothing to do with the epilepsy medications 🙄 [I do tend to procrastinate more, maybe due to impending retirement, rather than side effects of my medications?🤭]

Hi I have been on lots of different medication but Briveracetem with Vimpat have really worked for me . Unfortunately i have become immune to them so not so good at the moment. But the side effects of both are really minimal which helped as I often suffer quite badly from side effects of different medication. I hope they work for you.

Hi I am on Briveracetem with Vimpat they have worked well only one seizure since I started in April 2018, I do find hands shaking my main problem, although that could be due to my other medical conditions, do you find shaky hands also car67? I have juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, for 52 years, so running out of medicine options, seem to be ok?🤞

No I don’t seem to have shaky hands? I too have been on vimpat and brivact since 2018, Spoke to neurologist today , hopefully new medication again , as pregabalin not working, I feel Like a massive nuisance though, but my body just so sensitive to new medication, not sure why, not many meds left for me. So tiring and frustrating not sure what to do next.

Do you think the shaky hands could be Parkinson’s? Sorry to worry you, just a thought.

I have been tested twice for Parkinson's, once in 2016, long term side effects of Epilim, negative, then again in 2021, for side effects of AZ vaccine and Schwannomatosis NF3, again negative, my father had Parkinson's. I had bad effects of pregabalin with my Schwannomatosis and osteoarthritis, took myself off it quickish WHEW! I reckon my shaky hands are caused by my body, essential tremors, worn out? I actually chose the mixture myself, one of my better choices! I was on Fycompa [with lamictal ] from Dec 2016 to Nov. 2017 the worst mixture ever in my life, indirectly long term due to my present unsteady condition! That is a relief thanks car67 you are the first person I have been in contact with about the vimpat and briviact combination👍👍
