Epilepsy Medication

Hi Everyone, my 6 year old daughter Esra has been diagnosed with epilepsy since she was 3. She is currently switching from Keppra to Trileptal as doctors think her Epilepsy symptoms are more Focal onset however, her last seizure was generalised tonic-clinic seizure so now we stopped reducing the keppra dosage until next EEG scan. My current concern is she is waking up looking very tired and I am not sure it’s because of the medication or she is not getting good sleep over night? I would truly appreciate if anyone has similar experience or know someone who had similar experience? We just want to know what’s causing her tiredness.

We got her blood tested today and thinking she might have low iron?

hi there,i've been on keppra for some years now and they helped me a lot,along with some other meds.its a known fact that they can make you sleepy (as they do me)so i would expect it to be a small side effect plus they made a big difference to control my fits.cheers.

Speaking from having JME epilepsy for nearly fifty years, side effects form medication is always relevant, can sometimes be worse than the actual epileptic seizure? Always a matter of measuring which is best, EVERYONE is different, there is no thing as perfection with anybody with epilepsy, there is no perfect cure, and there are so many variations of the condition. Usually epilepsy effects are treated, very rarely do they cure at the source. I have had Keppra and unfortunately it does make you feel tired, but if your seizures are in some sort of control you have to put up with the tiredness. Myself I have tried most of the medications, I am on Vimpat and Briviact, having over 400 seizures, just one since April 2018, but unfortunately still feel 'tired'. All the very best
