I am due at tribunal on Wednesday I have 3 to 4 grand mals a month and 2 to 3 petit mals a week sometimes a day, my partner does all the cooking, I took a nasty fall hurt my right hand to the point I can't use it and I have a frozen left shoulder, do I need to attend the tribunal or can my partner attend without me.

You are the one with the epilepsy so obviously you will have to attend. Your partner can accompany you.

Do you not have have a solicitor representing you?

All the very best

Hi Arnoldlee

I’m assuming from your post that it’s a benefits tribunal. You can have a representative attend on your behalf if you’ve told the tribunal in advance. The appeal form you filled in will have had a section asking if you have a representative and for their details. If your partner isn’t named as your representative then they can’t attend for you, but they can go with you to support you on the day.

If you’re not sure if your partner is named as your representative, you could try contacting the tribunal centre to check. There should be a contact number on the letter you received inviting you to the hearing.

It’s worth bearing in mind that attending the hearing yourself will give you the best chance of success, as you can answer the questions yourself and explain how your epilepsy affects you.

I hope it goes well.

My partner is down to speak for me as he has studied law, so we should be o.k, he is furious with the pip assessment as he sat through it with me, everything refers to a day without seizure, so a good day not a bad day, epilepsy is a hidden disability if you can't see it, it is not there.
