HRT advice - any recommendations?

I've been on Kliofem since my radical surgery last year. Unfortunately I have been plagued with migraines and teenage skin. Otherwise,I feel fine, normal. I am going to see my GP about trying another HRT and would be keen to know other people's experiences and anything you'd recommend.

Thanks

Hi Beks

I haven't yet taken any HRT since my hysterectomy in 2011 although this is my own decision. However I can tell you that the HRT of choice at the hospital I was treated at was Livial. I understand this has less harmful effects on ladies who are endo sufferers.

Sorry to hear that you are suffering with migraines. Is this a recent symptom post-hyst or have you always been susceptible to them? I take amitriptyline daily to prevent a reoccurance of my migraines and I have found that very helpful so far.

Hope this helps

I did have hormonal migraines when I was young, but they were quite rare in their occurrence, maybe one every couple of years. I was given Livial in combination with Zoladex prior to my surgery and the migraines started almost immediately. There are no triggering factors.

I'm seeing my GP in a couple of weeks and will see what he can suggest.

Thanks for the reply.

Hi, in a books I have read it has been suggested that hormone triggered migranes, and endo incidentally, can be down to a hormone imbalance referred to as estrogen dominance. This does not necessarily mean that estrogen is too high, just that it is high relative to progesterone. Progesterone balances out the effects of estrogen. Standard HRT usually means an increase in estrogen. The synthetic progesterone that is in HRT does not work with your body in the same way that natural bio-identical progesterone does. Doctors rarely prescribe bio-identical progesterone because it can't be manufactured by the drug companies and is therefore not patented. Food for thought.
