Well ladies, good news for me. After waiting over 9 months and 1 cancellation I have been told that my 1st lap is now going to be next Tuesday!! Very scared but also quite excited as this could be when I get the answers I have been waiting for....... Or hoping so.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice for me about going into surgery and looking after yourself after.

Thanks in advance!!

Hey,

I had my lap,dye and hsteroscopy done yesterday.

My advice is to make sure you have time off work to rest, I will probably go back Monday, but I am very sore, and very bloated due to the gas they pump in. The incisions are very small which is good, and the actual surgery only took 35mins.

Other than being sore, I am fine - just make sure you rest for the first few days after.

I had unexplained chronic lower pains, and thankfully they found the reason why. Endometriosis on the left ovary, pelvic region & outside of my bowels. They removed the ovary and pelvic endo as there wasnt alot, but the bowel endo they said at the moment is too difficult of a procedure to do,

Hope yours goes well, and you get some answers, a laparoscopy is definitely the best way to find out whats going on.

Hiya,

I had a diagnostic lap done a two weeks ago. I was really nervous before too, but it was not half as bad as I thought it might be. (I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to needles and stuff). I am having another lap in a few months time to treat it and I'm not so worried about the next one even though I will probably have more pain afterwards. The pain killers I was given helped with the pain, I in much discomfort at all.

You can search the internet for tips like wearing clothes for the hospital that are easy to get on, and are loose fitting, also slip on shoes might help. Take a pillow with you for the journey back home, I put it between my tummy and the seat belt. My throat was quite sore afterwards so it might be worth having some throat sweets in the house, and maybe taking some with you to the hospital. Try to do any chores that need doing are done before hand so you aren't tempted when you should be resting. Do the shopping before hand too and get foods that are easy to make.

Peppermint juice is supposed to help with shoulder pain that you can get from the excess gas left in you afterwards. I didn't need to use this because I didn't get much pain from that at all. I did sleep propped up though which can help with the shoulder pain too.

Take something to read / listen to in the hospital while you are waiting.

I can't think of anything else right now. I hope it goes well and you get the answers you want.

Take care

Take a book, DS or crossword book etc. I had my op on the 3rd Jan and I had to be at the hospital at 7.30am but my op wasn't until 1.30pm. Also helped that the surgical assistant pushing me about was very fit, so instead of worrying about the op I could look at him :) I also got some cranberry juice as i got a bit of pain with weeing.
