Anyone know what I was injected with? - Endometriosis UK
Anyone know what I was injected with?
it wouldnt be Depoprovera would it, that is a common contraceptive and hormonal injection? Just a guess.
Hi Samantha
It could have been one of the GNRH analogues which replicates a naturally occuring hormone. The injections are more commonly known as Zoladex, Prostap or Decapeptyl and all three have the same effect. I think it is down to the hospital consultant as to which brand they use. The drug switches off your ovaries causing your body to go into a temporary menopause-which is why you have been given the HRT.
Whilst the hormone is in your system any endo pain and discomfort stemming from your ovaries should be alleviated. On the other hand you now have possible side-effects of the menopause to contend with. The most common ones are hot flushes and joint pain but these can vary from female to female. Some ladies are lucky and have few side effects or find the side-effects easier to deal with than the endo symptoms.
Has your consultant said how long you will be having the injections? The usual length of time is 6 months but this will depend on the overall treatment plan for you such as if you waiting for more surgery or aiming to start a family.
Good luck with your endo journey and hope you feel some relief from the injections

I had something called Decapeptyl.... With Tibolone (hrt) add back. This was to put me in temporary menopause. Hope you manage on it OK. Was one the worse times I'm my life. Felt hideous!
