Norethisterone(Progesterone) experiences

Hi my GP has given me a course of Norethisterone 3 x 1 tab per day and just wondered what experiences others have had? It is hoped that it will make me have a bleed as I haven't a period since coming off the pill last Aug. I'm also being sent for an ultrasound to see whats going on. L x

i've only ever taken them a couple of times, once to stop my period for a scan, and the second time was after my hysteroscopy and they fitted a mirena they said take it as i was due an extremely heavy bleed and did not want the mirena to come out - how long do you have to take them for? i find it odd to take them to make you have a bleed as they are designed to do the opposite, unless they hope that once you stop them it will kick start your period x

I'm taking Norethisterone too but like worth71 says it's to stop the bleeding not to start it. I'm taking 2 3x a day!! My consultant prescribed me that but my GP wasn't very happy as it's quite a high dose. I'm due to go back to my consultant next week for a possible hysterectomy. Hope you get it sorted.

I finished Norethisterone on Thurs and started bleeding on Fri which is good but according to what I've read it takes 2-5 days before a bleed starts. Has anyone else started bleeding so soon? Also i'm really sorry to be graphic but the blood is very dark, is that normal when you've not had a period for over 9 months? Thanks x

Hi I am on this 4 times a day worked great on 3 a day for couple of months but now I on 4 & a mirena. Does not affect my mood but does give me the sweats & yes bigger boobs ! Gp says this is too high dose but what else is one to do
