Laparoscopy or Mirena

Hi everyone. I’m struggling to make a decision between getting the Mirena or doing the laparoscopy. I have struggled for very long with pain and was never diagnosed. It has now severely impacted my digestive tract. Will just doing Mirena improve or maintain symptoms. You are always told to avoid surgery but I really don’t want to maintain where I am at now

hi!

I did both, i knew i wanted a diagnosis (which i got) to help me in the future but i also had the discussion with the consultants that my pill hadn’t been helping and i was scared of the pain of getting the mirena fitted. So we did both and i had it fitted during surgery. We discussed that the mirena isnt permanent and realistically you can have it removed at any point. Im 5 weeks post op and as far as the mirena goes, really good, i havent had a period yet 🤞 hopefully this helps in some way xx

my thoughts are to get the Endo removed and then have a Mirena inserted during the laparoscopy. If the disease is removed that is likely to help with the pain. Mirena coils have been wonderful for me! I had mine post surgery and for years they gave me such relief.

All the best 💛🫶🏻

I chose the least invasive option first to see if it worked. It worked for me. I take double dose mini pill on top to control the pain. You need to choose what is best for you but I always assume try the least risky option first and operations always come with some risk. Your gyny should be able to advise
