Diagnosed with endo but biopsy doesn't show it

Hi, So I had my laparoscopy about 3 weeks ago and was told by the surgeon that he found endometriosis on my bowel/between rectum and uterus along with a chocolate cyst on one of my ovaries. I went for my post op appointment this week and was told that there was a vesicular lesion found however a biopsy of the fibrous tissue showed it was not endometriosis. The doctor says that the symptoms and presence of the chocolate cyst still indicates a diagnosis of endo, along with the lack of explanation as to why there is scar tissue on my bowel, suggesting although it doesn't show endo now, it could have been caused by it nonetheless.

Has anyone had this issue where they've been diagnosed but the biopsy says otherwise? I guess I'm still just a little in shock about the diagnosis anyway and don't really believe it yet, and although I don't want to have endo, this isn't helping. I've been prescribed dienogest which I'm due to start soon and don't really want to take this if there's a chance I don't need to!

Sorry for the long post lol, just feeling a little confused!

I had this! Just means that the sample sent to pathology didn’t contain Endo but doesn’t mean you didn’t have it! It does happen unfortunately

Hi i had two biopsies done on my uterus and cervix, don't know if it affects the cervix, but they came back clear, but I've still been diagnosed with endometriosis. Hope this helps 😊

Yep, I had a neg biopsy but still got the diagnosis of Endo and awaiting another lap as 2 years on back in pain again! it says this on the NICE guidelines :

During a diagnostic laparoscopy, consider taking a biopsy of suspected endometriosis:

to confirm the diagnosis of endometriosis (be aware that a negative histological result does not exclude endometriosis)
