Has anyone found Mebeverine/Buscopan helpful?

Mindfullness4791 profile image

Following a Laparoscopy, it is highly likely that I have Adenomyosis. One of the hardest symptoms is the uncomfortable bowel issues. I get bloating and constipation. I am wondering if it is worth trying Mebeverine or Buscopan. I've tried dietary and peppermint oil but neither really helped.Thank you x

Hi,

Are you looking for relief specifically after op or in general?

I found Buscopan helpful before op as I had terrible bloating & flatulence. I also have Adenomyosis.

Straight after my lap, I found over the counter herbal medicine/ laxative very effective for constipation. It is very cheap & effective. I tried not to use anything but I gave in as I didn’t want t to strain.

If you suffer from inflammation, you could also tried flax seed oil (tablets from holland & barrat) which have not only helped with inflammation but also help with bowel issues (they prevent constipation and diarrhoea).

Hope this helps. Xx

If you have had a bowel resection just want to say absolutely no laxatives after a operation and always consult with the doctor .

I have tried fibregel and that helps so much.

I have mebeverine as I get painful spasms that cause diarrhoea. I find if I take it about an hour before food it helps prevent the diarrhoea. Unfortunately if I take it consistently I find I have dizzy spells so I don’t actually recommend it. I’m told it narrows blood vessels and this can cause dizziness.

I’ve found colpermin peppermint oil capsules and simeticone were better for bloating and constipation. Sorry I know you mentioned peppermint oil not working. Superdrug do an IBF relief capsule that really helps with the wind pain which contains simeticone. I also find taking probiotics help.

Buscopan helps if I have cramps at my belly button level. I do find it wears off very quickly so the pain comes back for me.

Apparently amitriptyline can help with bowel symptoms but I haven’t tried this.

hello, I haven’t tried buscopan myself, but I have heard positive feedback from others that have used it for stomach pains, bloating & constipation.

Hope it helps. Take care x

Thank you for your replies. I had a serious allergic reaction to peppermint oil unfortunately. It just constantly feels uncomfortable. I don't want to take something that will make the constipation worse. I have an overactive bladder too. I've tried upping my fibre and taking laxido but that aggrevates it. Eating clean aggrevated it too. It's a rock and hard place situation.
