Diet changes that have helped you

As it seems I am having to wait so long for treatment, I want to see if I can help my symptoms with diet. I don't have a diagnosis but have all the symptoms of Endo, especially Endo belly. Please can you share any diets that helped. There are so many online and I'm not sure where to start.I am also looking into having scans at Harley Street.

Hi Mindfullness4791, The wait time for treatment is a nightmare so completely get why you want to try other things in the meantime. I had my lap in Feb and got diagnosed and since then have been following a gluten free diet which I would say has been life changing the pain has reduced by atleast 50% so would deffo recommend. I found that only the surgery truly reduced the endo belly symptoms but I did find that turmeric tea helped reduce the swelling

Hi I have a dairy and gluten free diet. It has been helpful as in my case the endo affects my bowels. Anything that is anti inflammatory seems to be good. All the best

My bowel is affected too :( I'm going to give gluten/dairy free a go. How long did it take to work for you? Xx

I can't remember exactly how long it took because its been years now and lots of trial and error. Unfortunately I still have symptoms, especially around my period, but it's been really helpful. Wish you all.the best.

As a coeliac anyway I am naturally gluten free but I found the Mediterranean diet really helps

I found an anti-inflammatory diet really helped, adding in lots of anti-inflammatory foods like fruits and veg. We are all different in terms of what we react to, but I found gluten, sugar, alcohol and caffeine were big pain and bloating triggers for me. Good luck.

I have tried a low FODMAP diet (which basically tries to remove anything that will irritate your gut or be difficult to digest), it's primarily for IBS type conditions but as my symptoms can mimic these types of conditions I found it helpful (and I think bloating is something it is supposed to help also). It starts off quite strict but after 4-6 weeks you can reintroduce foods and find out what your triggers are, this is what I have found most useful as I am slowly getting a list of foods I can eat freely and foods I should limit or avoid. I am also gluten and dairy free as others have suggested, I think this helps with both digestion and inflammation. Since starting this diet I rarely experience feeling gassy and bloated anymore, and it also helped to settle the IBS type symptoms too. It's tricky at first to feel so limited, but if you are able to push through it can be so helpful. I wish you the best of luck xx

I forgot to add that another thing that I think has helped me is taking a daily probiotic which also helps to heal your gut and aid digestion, they can be pricey but something to consider if you feel you still need more help beyond the diet change xx

Thank you for your advice. I was also looking at the low fodmap, as so fed up of feeling and uncomfortable all of the time. Fingers crossed the changes help. It is really reassuring to hear that yours have helped you x

I think trial and error with diet is a good idea and a great way to take control of at least part of your journey! Its definitely not a one size fits all and it takes time. What I would say is that when I first started playing around with diet I was just cutting lots of stuff out and it was quite hard work. Now I do still largely avoid gluten, dairy and keep alcohol, sugar and caffeine down, but I am far more focussed on eating the right foods to help myself (e.g. anti-inflammatory foods, wholefoods to balance blood sugar levels and hormones, probiotic foods every day incorporated in to a meal, and protein in most meals). Starting the day with porridge and chia seeds made with oat/almond milk seems to have helped a lot for me.

I read a few books/articles on gut health, anti-inflammatory diets and guidance for nutrition around the menstrual cycle which I would recommend researching those areas. Its a whole lifestyle shift really, rather than just cutting stuff out which I have found helps but do be patient with it as its not something that gives over-night results :)

I started gluten free this week! If you find any good products let me know. The crumpets I bought were interesting πŸ˜… I'm a big Baker so maybe I'll get some gluten free flour. Will be a challenge for me.....I've been living on toast and cake lately

Hi Jen, I love bread too lol the best one I've found so far I'd the Warburton gluten free tiger bloomer all the other breads are a bit meh :D
