So to give some back story…. I was put on the wait list for a laparoscopy in Wales in August 2019 (so 2 years ago) and it has not yet happened due to covid. Prior to this as I’m sure many of you will understand was about a year of desperately trying to even get on the wait list/get a gynae referral.
Unfortunately I have had to move houses so I am now in England. I have been told I need to see the GP and go to the bottom of the wait list. As someone who has already waited on the list for 2+ years I am totally devestated, I just want answers. Has anyone ever been in a similar situation or have any advice regarding this please?

Sorry to hear this, I'm in UK and I waited from Feb 2020 until June this year to have my laparoscopy and I thought that was long enough. Do you have the option to go private? You need to really push with gp to get anything done xx
Hi, unfortunately the right to choose only applies in England. In Wales you can only go to the hospital you are in the locality of so I couldnt keep my referral there.
Can I have treatment in Wales when I have a GP in England?
If you live in England and have a GP in England you will normally receive your treatment from the NHS in England, and your Clinical Commissioning Group is responsible for your care. Generally, you will receive your care from an English hospital. If you as a patient feel that there is a strong medical reason why your treatment should be provided in Wales, you should approach your GP and the Clinical Commissioning Group, explaining the reasons.
I’d say you have a strong reason as treatment had already been put in place.
This exact same thing has happened to me! Im waiting till next year now and I've been waiting since 2018! Had to go through the referral Process twice as the health board wouldn't fund me to have it in Wales.
My only advice is keep ringing them up to check you are on the right lists for appointments and the surgery when you get there, it does seem to make a difference!
And don't forget in England you have NHS choose so know you can research BSGE centres and pick which one you feel is right for you!
On a personal level, the amount of time I've been waiting made me doubt my symptoms constantly ‘it cant be that bad if they are ok with me waiting this long’ so just don’t give up and find a treatment in the meantime that helps, keep asking the GP about your options ❤️
Hi, I’m so sorry your having to go through this! Where abouts in England are you? I was referred through my GP to a hospital that sees private and NHS patients. I’m just wondering if there was one near you that you could ask your GP to refer you to
Hello Gem227, I’ve been waiting for a laparoscopy sinceJune 2020. Still nothing, I do call regularly to no avail, I’m definitely on the waiting list. I’m up in Liverpool xxx
