Running out of Endometriosis treatment options! Are there any more out there?

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with endometriosis last May through a diagnostic laparoscopy, with Mirena coil inserted during the op. That has been found to not be sufficient enough alone to combat the endo that still remains and it’s started to grow back on one of my ovaries. They’ve found that my ovary is also stuck to the side of my uterus due to scar tissue. I’ve tried desogestrel, another birth control pill as well which I can’t remember the name of, and most recently Zoladex. I had an awful time on Zoladex with severe side effects which I had to make the decision to stop using. It was the 3.6mg (1 x month). I was also in excruciating endo pain during my time on the injection (I’m aware it takes about 2 months to feel the benefits of the drug but I have to put my mental health first and can’t bring myself to go through what I did when I was on the injection!)

My consultants aren’t taking me seriously (one even told me to start having kids now to avoid complications in the future! I’m 24 years old for context!!). I’m now running out of options and my consultants are running out of ideas on how to treat.

Has anyone found a treatment that’s worked to treat their endo which I haven’t mentioned above? I’m desperate to find some kind of pain relief - I’ve been in debilitating pain everyday since around October last year and it’s completely deteriorated my quality of life, and mental well-being.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

A x

Hey, sorry you're going through all this. Can I ask how you know its started to grow back on one of your ovaries? x

Hi, of course! I had an TVS scan (internal ultrasound) and they found it had grown on the back of my left ovary x

Hey I'm so sorry you're going through this and that your consultant is ignorant. Can I suggest that you change consultant- are they a general gynaecologist?

There are many things that might help, if you send me a DM I'm happy to share my research with you. All natural remedies. Not allowed to post links to other websites publicly due to endo uk rules

My GP came up with a great suggestion for a painkiller it's called Etoricoxib. It's in the same family as naproxen.

Should take omeprazole 30 minutes bbefore this tablet or can be taken with famotidine. Both to protect the stomach. It's better because it has less side effects on the digestive system. It reduces inflammation and helps with pain. Worth speaking with your GP about it x

Best wishes

Hi there, thank you so much for your response! I’m actually going privately now to be seen by someone who specialises in endometriosis, the experience I’ve had with general gynae has been awful so far! I’ll look into the painkiller you’ve mentioned. I’ve tried Naproxen whenever I’ve had to go to a&e so I’ll definitely mention it to my consultant/wait and see what he says about it. But thank you for the suggestion!
