Hi, I am new to here and hoping to get some advice. Ive suffered from endometriosis for over 20 years now, I have now been placed on waiting list for a hysterectomy. Feeling positive but at the same time I'm terrified. I dont have any questions just yet but hoping for some advice nearer the time 💛

Hi that is great you are on the list but it’s natural to feel terrified. I am waiting to see a gynaecologist to ask for a hysterectomy as told this was my option if ablation didn’t work. I have posted a couple of times on here about hysterectomy so have a look at my posts. Hearing other women’s experiences had calmed me down about it, although it’s nerve wracking I believe it changes life for the better in some cases.

Are you having a full hysterectomy? Leaving your ovaries in? Have you had a lot of surgeries in your 20 years?

X

Hi, ive had an ablasion which worked really well for 8 years they tried to do further but I had too many adhesions. Most of my treatments have been zoladex, decapeptyl as I cant take progesterone. They are removing my ovaries as well as I also suffer from poly cystic ovarian syndrome. X

That’s great ablation worked for you. I had it and continue to bleed/pain. How old are you? I am 39. Here is hoping we get out appointment some time this year x

I'm 48 next week. I've been told it will be at least 6 months due to covid. I've came this far so will be fine to wait as long as is needed 💛

So glad your finally getting somewhere, and feel positive about hysterectomy.Have they said where adhesions are, will they be removed at the same time as hysterectomy?

Will you be going on HRT after op?

I'm 48 in two months and my consultant has got me on prostap with HRT to see if I will cope without ovaries. Hopefully full hysterectomy and removal of bowel adhesions. He's advised I stay on HRT till 53 to help protect my bones.

Happy birthday for next week

take care

xx

Hello, we are all different and wouldn’t want to put you off in anyway. I had total hysterectomy at 32. I was put straight on Premarin. Fast forward to now which is 26 yrs later I still suffer with period like pains on nearly a daily basis. So am waiting for excision surgery. Hysterectomy will not cure endometriosis. It’s really your decision and if I had my time again I wouldn’t have done it. Not just that, I was on hrt for 20 yrs which has done nothing but fed the endo as it’s oestrogen. Don’t want to put you off but think carefully x

Hi Thankyou, I have been advised of the fact I may have pain due to scarring. I have completed 2 years treatment of decapeptyl and tibolone and because I had good results from them both they feel I would respond well from having hysterectomy. They have exhausted everything else with me and had hoped that after the decapeptyl I would be in a natural menopause but unfortunately I'm not. I'm 48 my consultant and myself have avoided surgery for such a long time but its all that is left now. Xx

Hi angel nurse I had my hysterectomy in the uk on 15th dec paid privately with work. All went well only ovaries left. Benign myoma in whole uterus. Laparoscopic surgery scars very small now. Only issue is my bowels are not working since surgery. I had one movement on Boxing Day and the last six or more weeks have been a nightmare. They still cannot sort it or say what caused it. I hoping to be skipping around like a new bunny now after the operation. Everyone is different though, look at yoga exercises you can do in recovery, no lifting or bending mind and walk as soon as you can after operation.

Hello Angelnurse, I had a hysterectomy in 2018 at age 41 with ovaries left in. I have suffered with pelvic pain since 7 weeks post hysterectomy and had to have a laparoscopy in 2019 where endometriosis was found on my bowel and bladder which was removed. I was pain for 6 months but it then returned and I am now on Gonapeptyl injections (same as zoladex & prostrap) and HRT. I am also on my 3rd hospital as each consultant has discharged me post surgery and we’re endo specialist.

The injections have given me some pain free days which has been amazing but feel they have made my blood pressure go up I started HRT 10 weeks after starting the injections as the menopause symptoms got a bit to much to cope with but since starting the HRT I have had more pain.

I just don’t think there is a win win with this disease as there is no cure.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!
