Hi ladies I’m booked to have my first prostap injection tomorrow morning and I’m a bit nervous. Just wanted to see what your experiences are with initial side effects so I’m prepared! I know we all react differently though. Thank you x

Prostap injection - initial side affects?
If I hadn’t already discovered Emla cream to numb the area, I’d have struggled. Overall I didn’t get side effects. I hope it helps 🙂
Hi there! I had my 5th (monthly) prostap yesterday - I’m not great with injections but have found these quite painless (I take paracetamol about an hour before). I did get a flare in symptoms a couple of weeks in but these settled about 2 weeks or so later. I started hrt (gel) around the time of my second injection as I was starting to experience menopausal symptoms and this only took a couple of days to take effect. I had a really good couple of months which was amazing but then started bleeding and had a lot of pain in December which was a bit of a shock - my consultant said it was unlucky and unfortunately for me while the pain has settled a bit the bleeding has not. Am now booked in for a hysterectomy mid Feb (which was the plan when I started the prostap) so hopefully that will help (consultant thinks my adenomyosis is the biggest contributor to my pain rather than the endo).
I was similarly nervous before starting the prostap but the initial side effects for me were nowhere as bad as I had feared - and even though things have taken a different turn more recently I think I’d still do the same thing again. Hope that helps and that it all goes well tomorrow 😊 xx
Thanks so much that’s really helpful 🥰 It was okay just feeling tired now. And mentally prepared for my symptoms to get worse before they get better but hopefully they will help over time fingers crossed!
Hi Dartmouth93, I’m on my 2nd month and I’ve only had hot flushes at night. No other side effects. I had to administer the injection myself and just numbed it beforehand with ice. If you’re having it administered by the nurse, ask her to pinch you quite tightly and you shouldn’t feel it too badly. Best of luck!
