no iv not but i am booked in on the 28th and im not sure how i feel about it after seeing some peoples side effects can i ask how do you feel about it?

I’m really unsure. My gynae just told me it can start menopause symptoms as it stops they functioning of your womb and ovaries. Can this function come back like is it reverisable? Will I be able to try for kids after?

that is a question iv asked mine too and he said yes because it can only be taken for 6 months so all function comes back after

I have. I've just had my 2nd 3 monthly prostap injection. Initially, I had a flare up of endometriosis symptoms (2-4 weeks) and heavy bleeding (2 weeks). Endo symptoms flared up when the next injection was due and so far for the first week of the 2nd injection I've had endo pain. I've found on the whole I have less pain, no bleeding and slightly more energy. The side effects I've had have been easier to cope with than endo; hot flushes, restless sleep, palpitation, severe headaches (I suffered with migraine before prostap) and constipation. I was given HRT (tibolone) but haven't taken it yet.

Have you been offered prostap?

Seems to be working for you which is good news I’m glad to hear. Yes I’ve been offered it but haven’t even had my lap to diagnose endo yet? Why can’t they n out just do lap then burn or cut it away? Don’t really want these side effects at 24

Yeah it does seem to be helping with my endo symptoms and has improved my quality of life overall but that isn't the same for everyone, do some research and weigh up the pros and cons. I can understand why you wouldn't want menopausal side effects at 24. I'm 43 and on the waiting list for a hysterectomy and my ovaries removed due to stage 4 endo. Are you on the waiting list for LAP?

No I’m not at least they haven’t said. All my doctors have been useless I just can’t seem to get a solution. That’s good news for you! Hopefully you’ll have an end of pain soon! I keep begging them to take mine away just seems simpler with no womens bits haha I wish you all the best and good luck for your hysterectomy x

Hi, I have had the prostap injections and they worked really well for me. I was on them for about 18 months and they just completely removed the periods and pain. I definitely had side effects (hot flushes, mood swings, some heart palpitations) but nowhere near as bad as taking the pill. I was really reluctant to take the HRT but it was wonderful. Completely removed the side effects and I was able to get me life back for a time. Good luck!

BTW, I can also confirm that thing do go back to normal as I'm now 9 months on from my last prostap injection, with a mirena and having ridiculous periods again 🥴 sometimes you just cant win!

So it only temporarily stops things? I’ve had lots of treatments (hormone wise) in hope to stop bleeding but it never has. I don’t see why they just can’t do my diagnostic lap and excision at the same time 🙄 make more sence to me xx

Yes. Essentially the injection puts you into medical menopause so the plan is the periods stop and you get some relief. It’s not recommended long term as it can contribute to oesteoperosis (that’s definitely spelt wrong!!) and is used for ladies prior to hysterectomy too. I found it was the only effective treatment for me. It sounds like they are offering it to you to try to give you some relief in the absence of being able to do the lap. Bloody covid! You could always push for another opinion though. If it’s even an option for you, getting a private consultation might get you some answers more quickly. But then again we are in strange times. Hope this is helpful

Hi, I went private because I just couldn't get the right answers quickly on NHS (not their fault) and it's been costly but I've felt worth it. Currently 3 months into zoladex injections

Im on prostrap injections...due to staet 3rd injection as approved for 2 years due to covid. Aside from initial continued pain, period bleeding i have adjusted and have a far better quality of life; i have had bad nausea, headaches, worse hot flushes, very moody/low moods, tired BUT compared to before its been worth it for me. Im waiting for everything to be taken out (hysterotomy) and possibly temp stoma bag. My 3rd injection is delayed and within a few days i started getting endo symptons so defo very temp in my case. I havent taken hrt as im concerned due to previous lumps in my breasts due to estrogen hormone. I really hope you can get benefits of this injections and i agree a lap would be beneficial but covid has once again pushed endo to bottom of list. Stay safe & well.

I’m glad you saw the benefits I think I’d rather anything then an endo flare up even labour people think I’m mad lol! What are risks of hrt if you don’t mind me asking? Also I hear a lot of people having this injection prior to hysterectomy but I literally have nothing at the end of this tunnel? So this will help me (that’s if it does) for only my time with injection the gynae told me their aim is to stop my bleeds as everything has failed so far.

I was dumped on the pill which stopped all the pain etc. But then lumps were found in my breast and i was removed from the pill as estrogen was found to cause them. The hrt for surgical menopause is completely estrogen so im awaiting a referral to a hrt climic to assess the impact (pros & cons). Estrogen affects people differently and in my case i want to know so i can make an informed decision as im not being fobbed off anymore. The gynae will tell you yes there are cons but pros outweigh it...this is fine if estrogen isnt an issue for you. I hadnt realised that endo could be caused due to over production of estrogen too.

Aw thts worrying the lumps for you! At least you know what caused them I just don’t have a clue why I’m being put on this route as it seems that you get put on it to have surgery? I also got dumped on pill but due to migraines and mom having blood clots on the lungs I can’t take combined so I take mini pill back to back and double the dose only just masks my symptoms still have pains but be scary to think how bad they’d be not on it

I was informed that this injection can be given as an option for pending operation or if op not option than to manage endo symptons. Are you under the care of a bsge accreddited centre? Im also a member of endometriosis uk (endometriosis-uk.org/about-us) and their support/advise has helped me immensely. They can direct you to sources, listen to your concerns etc.

I’ve been told before they wasted to trial then pull them do lap if doesn’t work but then this was a different doctor don’t get me wrong she seemed very knowledgable unlike the rest and very sympathetic actually. She said she was a specialist in menopause. I think it is a bsge and no but I’ll have a look at that now actually

Hi I had the prostap and then 4 zoladex and honestly they changed my life, pain, bleeding and most importantly moods all gone. I have had hot flushes and night sweats but to feel ‘normal’ is totally worth it. I was given the injections to confirm it was definitely gynaecology related (they tried to blame IBS). I am 40 and have had issues since teenage years, pregnancies and the pill helped early on so I thought everything was normal but gradually pain and bleeding got worse and more frequent, I’ve tried pretty much everything and these injections worked. As soon as I told the consultant after the first 3 how much it changed my life I was booked in for a hysterectomy which I had 2 days ago, no endo found so waiting for results of the tests they do on what was removed to see if that gives answers. As you’re so young your choices are harder to make but keep fighting your corner and you’ll get there. This site is great for giving the information to arm yourself with when you speak to doctors/consultants and I wouldn’t be where I am today without it.

I think that’s why the injections are a good test, to see if it resolves your problems then you know where you stand, it’s not permanent. It takes until the 3rd injection to feel the full benefit, the first definitely makes you feel worse but it starts to get better after the second. One other thing that did help me for a few years was norethisterone, it’s the one you get to stop your period if you’re going on holiday. I was on that for a few years and it set my periods to a manageable normal state. They persuaded me to try alternatives after a few years and all my problems started again. You’ll get there, you’ve just got to stick up for yourself, no-one knows what goes on in your body better than you. Good luck x

I’ve tried that medication too! Just slows down my cycle. My problem is my moms medical history blood clots on lungs and osteoporosis etc Thankyou so much for your advise I spoke to my doctor, she said she wouldn’t really suggest me to have the injection x

I have been on Prostap since 2018. I’ve had little breaks in between but could not cope with the period pains. Without it my periods are too painful and my endo returns.

It can affect my mood & makes me tired but I’d rather that than always in agony.

I would highly recommend taking add back (hrt) As well as obviously reducing the night sweats & hot flushes etc it reduces the risks of loss of bone density. I have taken Tibolone from the moment I started having the injection. My gynaecologist always checks I’m continuing to take them. If I miss it by mistake for 1 day, I notice!

Please consider taking the hrt as you are so young. Take care x
