Induced menopause

Hey,

2 years ago I had to have a hysterectomy due to recurring abnormal cervical cells. Because of my severe endo my consultant was hoping to keep my ovaries but I had to have one removed as it was stuck to my womb. I still have my right ovary but get a lot of pain in my right side lower abdomen and back! I’ve recently (day2) been taking sertraline due to depression and anxiety! I had a telephone consultation with my gynaecology consultant this week, actually not the same one who did my hysterectomy so it’s hard as I have to explain to her everything. The hospital aren’t doing operations due to Covid (I’m in Leicester 🤦🏼‍♀️) so my option is to have the injection that induces menopause ... can’t remember the name but it starts with D. I’ve tried so many years to avoid this as to be honest it scares the hell out of me! Anyone have any experience with sertraline, induced menopause injections and HRT? I feel like I’m in for a rough six months? 😖

Are you being treated at the BSGE accredited endo centre in Leicester?

I have to have the injections at my GP surgery as they aren’t allowing people into the hospital and she said they aren’t doing operations either at the minute for this sort of thing. Also I’m not sure? I just see consultants at the LRI which is my local hospital!

Ok I just googled it and apparently it is bsge accredited, the lady that did my hysterectomy is listed as one of the consultants however my last 2 appointments have been telephone calls with a different consultant who I’ve never met!

Hi I have had the Zoladex Injections ( induced menopause)and the HRT tibilone and citalopram which is the same as sertaline. It worked very well for me, I was totally pain free for period I had the injections which was about 18 months. The only issue is after they found it had weakened my bones- they did a bone scan and found early signs of osteoporosis. I was so happy to be pain free I wanted to stay on it!! I had to come off it in the end due to a bone scan showing weak bones, but if you take a supplement for the bones that might help. I have had a full hysterectomy and am still in pain but for about 4-5 days a month which is bearable! I still take the citalopram for anxiety and depression and it works really well for me, it changed my life for the better and helped to regulate the extreme PMS I was experiencing with the Endo and the low moods due to pain. I now have the Evoral patch HRT and that works well as I found the Tibilone after my hysterectomy was making the endo flare up again. I hope that has helped and I wish you good luck on your journey!! Sarah 🥰

Thanks so much for your reply! I’ve been on the sertraline now for just 3 days and no Side effects yet apart from my jaw feels clenched all the time! Trust me to get the strangest side effect lol! I’m glad so far I haven’t suffered with nausea or headaches which I think are quite common! I know it’s only 3 days in so I’m bracing myself for the next couple of weeks! My consultant said I could start the injections and hrt after I’d been on the antidepressants for around 3 weeks x

Yes definitely get the fan out it was so uncomfortable for me too, just know it is the only option really hmm just thought maybe a tea tree /peppermint body wash may help before bed as when cold hits the minty skin it feels cooler just a thought , please sign our petition so we can possibly get more funding into more and better research of endo and pcos. Best wishes X
