Hi, I've been reading a lot of posts about people's surgery, and I'm just recovering from mine but am not sure even when I ask whether the surgeon completed and excision surgery whilst taking out my ovary. Been informed i have stage 4 endo which has knocked me for 6 . I am about to start the hormone injection to put me on temporary menopause and had the coil fitted as well. My appointment with the consultant isn't till the end of January I'm okay with giving this initial treatment a go. My worry is that the consultant has already said that my only option after this is a difficult hysterectomy but they dont really want to do that , but I'm not sure why I couldn't have excision surgery if this doesnt work. I dont really want all the endometriosis left inside me but worry that the consultant I have did not/ can not use the excision surgery. Does anyone know of any NHS consultants using this method? My alternative is to go in jan and then go private for a second opinion with a specialist, but again not sure of where they are in the uk. Google shows Harley street and in not sure I can afford those!! Thanks

Hello
So as you have stage 4 you should only be seen by a BSGE centre. You can goggle this and check if the hospital and more importantly the gynaecologists is listed. If not you should be referred to a bsge centre (specialist centre for stage 3 and 4 endo). Specialist gynaecologist (only those listed on the bsge website), special nurses, pain management etc.
You can contact PALs at the hospital you had it with and ask about how to get your records. Usually takes a month to receive, but it will detail what you had done. To be honest you should have received a letter when you left after your surgery stating what happened. If you want to know sooner maybe call the secretary?
I don't know why they are saying a hysterectomy is your only option. If they didn't do excision then that is definitely the first before contemplating a hysterectomy (which doesn't cure endo).
Yes as soon as you were found to have stage 4 you should be referred to a tertiary specialist centre working to BSGE standards. Sometimes it is a 2 stage surgery depending on where your endo is. If you are in England there is a treatment specification published explaining how you should be referred and treated. Admin will be able to guide you to it otherwise feel free to pm me for all the details you need.,
