Recovery post op

I am 3 days post op and left hospital yesterday evening. I have really bad shoulder pain (the doctor said they aren't allowed to use the same technique to get rid of the gas due to coronavirus). I have been eating regularly and I have increased fibre in my diet. Is there anything else I can do to try to get the gas out of me? I've had no bowel movements yet.

Hi, I've been drinking so much peppermint tea but it doesn't seem to do anything! How long did you have to pain in your shoulder for? XX

i think it was 3/4 days, once I was up and moving around it seemed to help it disperse. Xx

Moving around is the best thing, sounds awful, but it works xx

I agree - got rid of my shoulder pain fast when I had my laparoscopy.

I've been moving as much as I can but I get tired quite quickly. I've been told not to do too much as it's a 6 week recovery, should I try to move more? Today I've been up and walking every couple of hours

You’re literally doing it right then, it’ll take a few days tho, maybe a week. Without sounding rude, have you done a decent poo yet? Constipation pains could be adding to your discomfort xx

I’ve just seen the bottom your post! It could be the fact you haven’t had a BM making this worse and slower xx

Yes I have been, I've been taking hour/two hour naps and then getting up to move around

You can buy wind tablets. I found moving every few hours helped me though - going to the loo, going to get a drink small but often. Hope you have a fast recovery x

That’s so painful! I think the quickest thing would be to go on YouTube and find a 10 minute yoga video for trapped air, sounds mad but yoga does help most things, otherwise ask your doctor for some mebeverine which work really well For trapped air and ibs.

Windeze tablets are very good. I read on another post. Started taking them ASAP after surgery and didn’t get the shoulder pain. Also a hot water bottle but not too hot! Hope this helps and you feel better soon!

another vote for peppermint tea, i also found lying on my side with either both legs pulled up or one leg resting on a pillow helped relive it a bit. I had bad shoulder pain after my 2nd op and this helped a bit.

It could be that you’re constipated. My specialist specifically said to take restoralax as soon as I got home for 2 weeks. It helped so much to get things moving again. It’s a powder that you mix into juice or water.
