Hysteroscopy 29th Jan. Period started 1st Feb. Excruciating pain. Is it an awful flare because of my period or could it be the hysteroscopy?

I have basically said all in the above. But I am in desperate need for advice.

I had minimal spotting after my hysteroscopy and cramps. I finished my pill on the 31st and started lightly spotting on 1st. My period is now in full flow and I haven't had one since October 2019 so I knew it was going to be bad.

However, the pain I have feels like it is coming inside like from my cervix. I am sure I haven't got an infection because I haven't got a temperature. But I have been in tears since and it just seems to be getting worst.

I am reluctant to go to hospital because they just dismiss you but obviously I will if I have to.

Any advice would be really appreciated I feel so helpless.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Jade,

I'm sorry you're having such a bad time. I suggest you phone NHS 24 on 111 and let them know what's happening, so they can get you assessed. They are better placed to advise you right now because I don't know your full history.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for your reply, I waited until this morning and visited the G.P they have spoken to Gynecologly at the local hospital and they have said I need to be seen. So I am just waiting for my partner to finish work to take me to A&E.

Thanks again xx

Hello KGme, yes I got to A&E yesterday morning and was admitted by the afternoon. They did a CT scan to check for any perforations and did bloods to check for infection.

My scan came back normal thankfully. The consultant was actually amazing and didn't dismiss my pain which I usually expect.

He feels my pain is so bad because I am inflamed / irritated because of the hysteroscopy so it has intensified my usual pain, he said my usual periods because of the endo and adeno are horrific so this will be significantly worse.

He told me I did the right thing coming in to rule out anything sinister and it is clear this is different because I can manage my pain at home normally and because of the severity of my pain I am going to need a cocktail of pain relief to manage it.

He has prescribed diclofenac (suppositories), paracetamol, codeine and oramorph. He has said he wanted to get it under control as best we can and monitor my obs to make sure there isnt an infection developing because my CRP is slightly high.

He did say its going to take a good few days to another week for my pain to go back to my normal pain levels but I am hoping I will just be discharged today with the medication so I can be at home.

Thanks for asking! Xxx

I'm relieved to hear you've been seen and it sounds as though you have been in good hands. Take it easy x

Glad you get pain killers they should of been issued before if you have had a smelly discharge you could still have a infection

I have had three Hysterescopys recently and have experienced severe pain on and off, also considerable blood loss. I am now borderline anemic, on and off with chronic pain, if you have discharge what colour is it? If it's green, yellow or brown and you have a temperature, you definately need someone to see you. Can you get an appointment to see a GP?

Not what you're looking for?
