Returning endometriosis?

Hi all,

I had a laparoscopy for Stage 3 endometriosis in my pelvic wall back in May last year and the consultant advised that he got rid of it all. I’ve been pain free up until about 2 weeks ago and since then I’ve been in a lot of pain again with my back☹️.

Does anyone know if the endometriosis can return as quickly as 9 months?!! The pain is so similar to before.

Many thanks

Lou

I’ve never had 9 months relief from two of my operations. So I’d say yes x

Sorry to hear your symptoms are back. I only had about 5-6 months pain free after my lap so I think so, it's so tough :( x

No, endometriosis does NOT return in 9 months. If you're back in pain it's because it wasn't removed thoroughly or correctly in the first place (these are the words of a famous excision surgeon, dr. Vidali).

I strongly recommend choosing a much better surgeon next time. There are also several surgeons working within the NHS there.

Please do not believe endo comes back this quickly only because your surgery was clearly poorly performed. Skilled surgeons are out there and they are very accessible.

I believe it can definitely come back within 9 months. I first had surgery Feb 2018 and by June 2018 I was back seeing the consultant complaining of pain again. I had my second lap on Thursday just gone and it has now grown inside my bladder. As everyone is aware there’s no cure for endo so I think it doesn’t matter what type of surgery you have, if it’s going to come back it will. Trust your body and your gut feeling and arrange to see your doctor/consultant again! You know your body better than anyone else xxx

Yep, mine is back, exactly the same pain. Although not as bad this time.

Yes, it definitely can. I had it removed in January of last year and was complaining 3 months later with the onslaught of it again and by January this year, it was worse. I had hysterectomy this time with my endo removal but he kept the ovaries since he said they look good. Hoping it doesn't come back!

I agree with a majority of the above in that yes it can come back. I had a 2 stage surgery in January and April 2019 to get rid of it, I then had to have another surgery in December for something else and the surgeon said he was surprised at how much of the endo had grown back (although I was NOT experiencing any symptoms) so he removed everything that had regrown xx

Yep mine’s definitely back. Same old symptoms. Not as bad as before yet... however the fatigue is just horrendous! When I have a flare up which tends to be around ovulation, I’m in pain and absolutely exhausted for a good few days. My gynae appointment was cancelled due to Covid 19 but waiting for a new one, whenever that will be!! I’m going to question having a hysterectomy but whether they will do that I don’t know. I’m 41 and not wanting any more kids. Just want a better quality of life to do things with the kids!! Thanks all for your replies. It really helps to know I’m not the only one xxx

Had my first lap in October 2019 and pain was back after 3 months. Getting gradually worse. Got a gynaecologist appointment in July. I feel it is possibly on my bladder or bowel because I have been leaking urine in my sleep and need to go to the toilet 6+ times a night, desperately. Pain during and after sex. Bloating. Just a lot of pain and discomfort. From what I’ve read, it will just continue to come back. When and where seems to be down to good surgery, diet management and mostly pure luck. X
