Finally got a surgery date!!

Hi everyone,

I finally have a surgery date of this coming Friday and I’m ecstatic!! My mind has gone in to overdrive now though.

What did you take in your hospital bag? Can you recommend any brands/products for the healing process? How long before you were ‘mobile’ again?

I have so much to do and only one full day to plan as I’m working right through to my surgery!!

I had my lap on Monday and I packed loads of stuff that I didn’t actually need or use. I did use my dressing gown and slippers and loose fitting trousers and top to go home in. I also recommend taking a pillow to place under your seatbelt on the way home. I also recommend writing down questions you want to ask before/after surgery as I didn’t and my mind went blank! Good luck, hope your op goes well xx

Congratulations! Dressing gown, kindle/book/phone and slippers for on the day, along with loose comfy clothes for when you leave. I used my dressing gown rolled up for under my seatbelt, saved me packing an extra thing. I also took my own gluten free sandwiches and a banana to have when I could eat (I've had another surgery since (septorhinoplasty) and they kindly made me gf toast). I only mention this as I know a lot of endo ladies are gluten free as well.

For after, ask people not to bring flowers if they'll make you sneeze, cos it flipping hurts 😂 dry shampoo is a must, ginger and turmeric tea helped with the bloating, as did peppermint tea. Stock up on your painkillers of choice as they'll help with gas pains too, and I took activated charcoal tablets (I ordered off Amazon in an act of desperation after my surgery). I found that the soft sports bras from Primark were the comfiest thing to wear while I was still all bloaty. And I'm sure you already have a hot water bottle/wheat bag. Have a think about where things are in your house, you won't be able to bend for a bit so make sure the remote control is at waist height and you've got a good Netflix list at the ready! All the very best for your surgery. Enjoy taking some time to yourself afterwards and do not rush back to real life!

I work in retail and my return is date is Christmas week!! I won’t be rushing back and will make sure my doctor knows that fact!! I’ve got large cysts to be removed so I’ve been told recovery is 6-10 weeks and i’ll Have 2 weeks holiday to take!

I’ve not gone GF but have found that low G.I. bread is great. Can be found in Booths and Lidl’s and stops me bloating, less expensive than free from.

I’ve got a large shopping list for Tuesday, it’s my only day off now until my surgery- no rest for the wicked!

Thanks for the tips x

Good luck for Friday! Mines next Monday.. getting a bit anxious about it now!

I’ve asked a similar question and the suggestions were comfortable clothes/underwear for going home in ( for your tummy) small pillow for the seatbelt in the car for travelling home.

I’m taking some face wipes and lip balm to feel fresh!

Magazine or book to keep me company whilst I wait until the op on the day.

For home I’ve stocked up on peppermint tea, arnica tablets (help bruising after operation) ibrophrophen tablets (for pain), electric heat pad (help with bloated feeling), charcoal tablets from Holland and Barrett (helps with bloating and being bunged up from operation). Stock up on sanitary towels encase needed after operation.

Apparently fizzy drink will help with the bloated feeling too but I’ve not tried that before!

I’m now starting a list of chores I need to do this week to ensure I rest after the operation!!! X

I hear you on the chores bit!! Unfortunately my only day off is tomorrow, my MIL is coming with me to Liverpool so I can buy everything I’ve been meaning to buy for a while now as I know I'll sit down to rest and then be like ‘shoot!! I didn’t get ____’. It’s going to be a long day of shopping! As for the chores I won’t have time before my surgery, that’s going to bug me !

Hope it goes well for you x

Good luck with the shooting at least you have someone with you to help carry things lol!

The heat pad I have came from Argos if that’s any help to you... it really helps because unlike a hot water bottle or miscrowave bag they stay hot and it’s light on your tummy.

I use it for back pain amongst other things it’s a godsend!

My plan is an hour after I get home from work to force myself to do a few chores as I know we won’t able to lift etc for a few weeks.

With just over 15 hours before I go in, my surgery has been cancelled. The consultant has said I don’t need surgery.

I have a cyst of 9cm on one ovary and 7cm on the other?!?! I’m baffled. The consultant will be calling me later :c
