Hi all, I'm new here! I'm 26 and was diagnosed with extensive presumptive endometriosis/salpingosis in 2014, along with a retroverted uterus. All through my teens my periods were ridiculously intense - I used to have to stay home from school some days as I was constantly sat on the toilet both constantly bleeding and also having diarrhoea (Sorry tmi !!). My periods would last at least a week and would be so heavy I would bleed through pads at night. I finally had a laparoscopy in 2014, on my notes the consultant didn't write where the endo was found, but I recall him mentioning something about the bowel.. No endo was removed in the lap as they had not asked for an enema so couldn't remove anything. I was advised to just keep taking my birth control Cerazette and see what happens, I was naïve at the time and embarrassed so kind of dismissed my symptoms and said everything was ok. Now 5 years on and my bowels are becoming increasingly unpredictable, as well as my periods. I had no periods for around 4 years due to my pill stopping them (hoorah!), however after having my first smear test in November 2018 they have started again (irregular, sometimes monthly, sometimes one week bleed one week off one week bleed, sometimes nothing for months). I am also constantly changing between having loose bowel movements and being constipated, all in the same day (every day!!!) in the morning I will have extremely easy/loose movement where I feel my bowels have emptied completely but then all through the day I feel like I need to go again and rush to the toilet but nothing happens, or very little. I have mucus occasionally, sometimes mucus is all I will pass, one day I had a shock when I passed a big thick elastic like string of jelly like mucus.. I have seen my GP and had blood tests done for inflammatory markers and glucose thyroid etc all of which came back normal. I have now been advised to do a low fodmap diet. Every time I go to my GP I mention that I am worried the endo is worsening or has spread to the bowels, they seem to dismiss it and say it is just IBS?! I have bloating almost every day, a month or so ago my bowel movements were so painful (Endo website describes the pain as feeling like you have a bread knife up the bum- yup eww!!) that particular pain has eased off now but I still have the constant hourly change in bowel habits and occasionally get pain right in the top inside of my bowel (It feels like very low back pain - but inside, not muscular)..
Has anyone else had symptoms like this and what has helped or what have you been advised to do?!! I am not sure whether to just pay for a private appointment to see a consultant again, and at the same time I am wondering if it really is just IBS and I am being paranoid?!!
Sorry for the essay - Any words of help much appreciated!! x
