Keeping a job with endo?

Hey guys 👋

I have struggled with endo for a few years now and I’m finding it hard to keep a job down. I try my hardest to work through the pain but somedays the pain just gets to much. I had to drop out of secondary school because of this. So finding a job in the first place was hard. But I was just wondering if there are any jobs that people have found to be more ‘endo friendly ‘ ?

I know it sounds stupid but I love to work it’s just my body can’t handle the fiscal strain. Any and all jobs suggestions are welcome

thank you for your help in advance x

I think it massively depends on how supportive the company is. I have an office job so I can plug in my heat wrap easily when needed and take my painkillers etc. I've also recently had an occupational health appointment, still need to discuss it with my company but I basically asked for what's already happening to be formalised. So I can work from home when needed, amend the trigger points for meeting relating yo my sick days etc.

Hi Fern,

I used to work in retail which was absolutely killing me due to the physical nature of the job but after a few years I managed to transition into office work.

Not only do management tend to be more supportive, but you’re sitting down all day, and there is less pressure to constantly be helping other people.

However getting into office work was difficult before I had experience so that may be something you face if you’ve not had that type of job before.

Wishing you all the best x

Hey,

have you looked into joining the bank at your local hospital or health service, they usually offer different jobs. At least then you have the option of being able to work when your feeling well and when your unable to go in it’s no problem.

Best wishes

I’m a nurse and must admit had to give up my job as I really couldn’t cope. I’m now on the bank and work shifts around my cycle.

I hope you find something & best wishes.

Agree with the above, office work was a life saver for me after basically fainting a couple of times behind a cash register in retail. Also, I’ve found taking to a select number of colleagues and always my manager about my condition really helps. When my regular pain each month suddenly started to worsen they could already see it wasn’t my ‘normal’ condition and made allowances whilst I waited for surgery.

Hi, maybe look for a job where you can work from home or 50/50. Thankfully a lot of companies (mainly the ones in the 21st century) offer flexible working or remote working. I work for a large multinational and they trust you to do your job, so I can work from home whenever I want. I have a very good work ethic but I can do the same job at home that I do at work. It may be worth looking into.
