Ultrasound results! How long?

Hi 👋

I’m new to the group and was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for a Transvaginal Ultrasound result.

It has been two weeks today and I have not received any news from my gynaecologist who booked the scan for me. Am I being impatient?

The lady doing the scan could see what she thought looked like a 5cm cyst on my left ovary but I am yet to know for sure what it is. Getting a little anxious waiting.

It is only about how long it takes for Mrs. Ultrasound to write up a report, and how long it takes for the gynae to book another appointment for you. That all depends on workload and will differ from area to area. It is probably the time to book a new appointment that is holding things up.

I gave in today as I still have not received a letter so I rang my GP. They had no results and have heard nothing from the hospital so asked me to ring the hospital. I did but I was to late and the dr dealing with my ultrasound results was not available so I have to ring back tomorrow. It’s been nearly 3 weeks now. It’s just very worrying when things take so long especially when something has been found. It would be nice to have a proper answer. I understand they are busy though not doubting that one bit.

I had a transvaginal scan last Tuesday. The results are back now but doctor has not yet actioned them. I don’t know where you are based, but I was told it should only take a week.

I would definitely keep chasing them up, no matter how annoying you feel you are being. X

Thank you for replying. I have rang the drs secretary 👩‍💼 today and she said my notes are in her tray waiting to be reviewed and she mentioned that she is not able to give me my results over the phone, she said she will email the doctor to make her aware that I have chased and she said she would ring me back. Unsure why she would ring me back if she is not allowed to give me results over the phone. Should I be worried 😟

I am glad that you received your results and hope everything is okay xxx

It’s routine to sometimes book you in for a follow up appointment so she may be calling you back to schedule that in for you to see the doctor. I’m booking an appointment for tomorrow with my GP, whether they have been actioned or not haha. They are on their system and I’m not waiting any longer 😂.

Thank you lovely, going through a real rough patch right now but powering through as usual. I hope you’re ok too xxx

Thanks lovely. It’s nice to have some positive feedback while waiting for results.

I’m sorry to hear that your going through a real rough patch and I really hope it improves for you really soon.

I am not too bad I am having a really bad day today but hopefully tomorrow I will feel better xxx

If the ultrasound was done in the hospital it should be reported immediately after you had it. Perhaps call the radiology department and just ask if it has been reported, they won't read it out to you but if they confirm it has then there is no reason why it shouldn't be with the referring consultant & your gp by now. Obviously I'm not sure where you are from or what hospital you were seen in but two weeks is far to long for an ultrasound report. (I used to work in a Radiology department as admin & I still work in a hospital now). I hope you get answers soon 🤞🏻 x

Thank you for your feedback I rang the hospital today and spoke with the drs secretary who will be emailing her to say that I have been chasing and it’s been 3 weeks now that I have been waiting for. I am having a bad pain day today so that’s not helping me one bit but I feel better that I managed to speak with someone and hopefully I will get some results real soon xxx

Hospital update:

Hospital has just rang me. My gynaecologist was on leave hence the wait but it has been passed on to another dr. The secretary of the dr rang and basically said that they want to see me and I need to book a follow up appointment to discuss my results and maybe surgery. They said it looks like a simple cyst so try not to worry. I've been given a number to ring to book my follow up appointment. Xxx

That's great, hopefully it is just a simple cyst that will go away by itself. They removed my 7cm cyst during my lap so there is hope!! I'm glad things are finally moving along for you. I hope you get an appointment soon x

Fingers crossed. My appointment is not until need of July. I am a little bit gutted because what ever is going on is causing me pain and discomfort every day.

Were you okay after the removal? What were your symptoms with your 7cm cyst? Xxx

It's difficult to exactly pin point the cyst pain as I have endometriosis of the bladder also but since the removal I no longer have any burning pain, no pain down my leg or in my back. Literally felt like how I'd imagine lava would feel. It also hurt to press, eventually I could also actually see a bump. We're already in day two of July, I know it's sooo easy for me to say but try and not count down the days and it hopefully will wiz by xx

Thank you. My GP rang and wants me to have blood tests done. Also stool sample and vaginal swab. Is this something you had done ✅ xxx

So sorry for the delay in responding, I've been so busy and poorly. Yes I had blood tests and a stool sample but no swab. The more tests they do the better I say! Xx
