Coil fitting at colposcopy unit

Hi everyone

So I've decided to give the merina coil ago. As I'm currently tricycling and only had excision surgery in September and definitely on the slope back down.

I really struggle with having speculums so even for smears I go to the colposcopy units at hospital as its slightly better in their purposes built chairs but I still tend to get light headed and feel ill. Because of this my gp has decided to refer me to the colposcopy unit to have it fitted. I'll be honest I'm still petrified.

I had biopsies due to my last smear coming back with some changes (wasn't anything in the end). I had a panic attack in the chair when they said they wanted to biopsy after looking at my cervix, not because of what it could have been put purely because of the pain I was already in and a biopsy could only add more pain. They calmed me down and gave me local anesthetic before biopsying but I still got very light headed, so they had to put the chair down to stop me passing out.

Has anyone else had a coil fitted when they react like this to speculums? Just looking for some hope.

I hope it goes ok with the coil, but I believe this is just another way of the doctors thinking thats whats best or thats what it says in the manual. I can talk more if u want, Ive been a sufferer since i started my periods at 12yrs old,i'm now 39 and believe it got passed to me from my mum who had it too.

I don’t have quite the same reaction but I have quite an extreme phobia and have had a few freak outs when speculums have been involved. I spoke to my GP and she said I can get a prescription for a sedative to take before hand to calm me down which I’m going to do before my colposcopy next month. Not sure if this would work for you but speak to your GP and see what they advise.

Thank you. Yes I'll speak to my gp about getting a sedative to help calm me as I know I'll go in tense.
