Cyst and lighter periods

Hi, I don’t know yet if I have endometriosis.

A scan last week at a fertility clinic showed that I have an ovarian cyst and a fibroid. The doctor queried whether the cyst may be endometriosis rather than a functional cyst. I don’t have pain though. I do have a few changes to bowel habits ( maybe due to pressure from the fibroid though, not sure). I actually have been having lighter periods. I wondered if I could have had blood going to the cyst rather than leaving my body? Is that possible? Having looked up endometriosis I did have symptoms years ago when I was much younger, I had some very painful periods and some other severe pain that was put down to ibs but since having my son ( way back in 2006) haven’t.

Hi,I had an ovarian cyst and was told that I was bleeding in to it as I had no other symptoms other than lighter periods an maybe a day or two early or late. I also had painful periods but thought, and was always told it was normal. I had laparoscopy back in November and was told I have endometriosis and quite bad adhesions. The cyst as thought was full of endometrial material. I hope you investigations go well xx

Mine on scan is full of white dots I think that’s likely endo? Think functional ones are just black?

Hi sorry it's been a while for me to reply x usually fluid shows as just black if you have clots or anything else they show up with white specs. X

It wouldn’t be the blood going to the cyst exactly, but endometriosis can cause trapped blood in your pelvic area, especially around the time of your period. Did your doctor say why they thought the cyst might be endometriosis? Costs themselves are not necessarily a sign of endo and I’ve never heard of being able to tell the difference between functional cyst/endometrioma on a scan.

If you google it, I think functional cysts look like a black empty bubble but mine is full of white dots ( looks like Endometriomas that I can see on internet).

Oh okay! Mine was an endometrioma and they didn’t know until they operated. They just assumed it likely was due to the size of it. They told me the depth would be a give away (Endometriomas are deep through the ovary and would usually be more hypodense) but that that doesn’t always show well on scans. Do they have a plan for you now?
