Pain/Cramps after Orgasms

Hi! So, I spent months with pain/cramps after orgasms, many doctors, hours and hours of reading online and I'm now at a point where I hardly ever have pain and am hoping to help other women like myself. It's a work in progress as I just started it and am getting a write up from my doctor but truly wanted to share my site in hopes that it can help even one woman. It's already helped at least one that I know of. I can also be contacted with any questions or for support

Hi shelley967,

I also experience cramping and pain after orgasm - usually around the 10 days in the lead up to my period. It has definitely put me off sex and has really knocked my confidence.

What kind of therapy did you have to help alleviate the pain? Was it women's health physiotherapy? I would be grateful if you could give a little bit more information about the type of physio you received? Thank you!

Of course and that makes me think I should add more to my website, so thank you. I had the unfortunate circumstance of being sexually assaulted and this triggered orgasm pain afterwards. The therapy helped me work through things I hadn't realized were making my body still feel unsafe. It was really hard for me to grasp the fact that my brain and my body were working against eachother! Previously I had gone to many doctors, with no answers but none had thought it was psychosomatic

Thanks for your reply. I'm really sorry to hear about your assault and all the consequences. What a horrible thing to have gone through. Is the therapy you had (are still having?) pelvic physiotherapy to work on your pelvic floor and other muscles in the pelvic area? Did you get this through NHS or did you have to go private?

I'm still in therapy but we are actually winding down my sessions and I'll be done by July of this year (a year and a half of therapy). My gynecologist had suggest therapy and/or pelvic floor strengthening. I decided to try therapy first and because of that, now know I did not need strengthening at all. I went to a private place that didn't take insurance by choice. I went to 5-8 doctors trying to diagnose this before I had a doctor come to this conclusion. Many were baffled when pelvic exams showed nothing wrong.

Glad this approach has worked for you and you are able to start winding down your sessions. Can I just ask - is the therapy you mention a physical therapy, or a talking therapy?

I'm sorry to hear about this. Yes, the symptoms sound quite complex - physical reasons for pain but also trauma/psychological impact which is huge. Well done for taking control and trying to do something positive. I think a lot of these issues are still quite taboo as there isn't really a safe space to discuss them in. I reckon a lot of people experience with sexual activity, particularly penetration.

There is a really good website/sex toy shop called Sh! or search sh womens emporium uk as they are really body positive and LGBT friendly. They sell a variety of items that can help and are designed to be empowering.
