Skin hyperpigmentation

Has anyone ever seen or heard of skin rashes and skin marks associated to endometriosis? I have a mark on my back that gets bigger and bigger every day. Dermatologist has taken a biopsy and says it is post inflammatory hyperpigmentation but has said it's not known to come from endo, especially since it is on my back. Any thoughts anyone? No idea as to yet what is causing it but the worse my endometriosis gets, the worse the mark gets. It's in the exact location of where I get endo pain/burn.

I've tried ice and steroid cream to switch off the inflammation but it's just a permanent mark that tends to get bigger and bigger. Started off the size of my thumbnail in 2013 but it's recently just exploded. I never use heat as it always feels a bit hot anyway. Also, it's not raised nor is it painful to touch.

It really is a weird one im afraid ! Could it b a birth mark? I KNOW THAT SOUNDS WEIRD... but i have one on belly and one on back of leg and it only comes out at certain times??? Other then that is a real puzzle.

So steroid cream? Works or not?

Not a birth mark and not Melasma. It's definitely post inflammatory hyperpigmentation based on the skin biopsy taken by the dermatologist. Steroid cream "should have worked" according to the dermatologist but didn't, so now she is taking it to a board of people to discuss. She seems to be as confused as I am. She's seen marks like this but only on the stomach relating to endometriosis, never the back. She's curious as to what else may be going on. Gynecologist has never seen any marks relating to endometriosis - but he doesn't seem to be very experienced in the subject.

Also, it believe it has spread quicker since the GP put me on progesterone only pill, but I need to monitor it more and take further pics to be able to prove.

This is so odd. I have heard of hyperpigmentation relating to birth control. When I came off of it, I got some dark spots around my mouth. Hope you figure it out xx

Wow, are you on Nancy nook endometriosis education on Fb. If not you should join that place. It has so much knowledge on Endo. I was blown away. It has the lists of doctors who deal with Endo world wide too. So much info about endometriosis

Yeah I've had a look at a few endometriosis sites on Facebook. I will look into that one thanks. It would be nice to find a specialist who has read more than a basic guideline on how to treat the disease. The supposed specialist purposed I doubled up on my progesterone only pill but seemed completely disinterested in the mark on my back.

Avoid pills that make you uncomfortable. The fb page I mentioned is very insightful

I have melasma on my face that never goes away. (have had it for 10 years now). Some times the hyper pigmentation gets lighter, but doesn't stay light for very long. I definitely think that the melasma is associated with both hormone fluctuations and inflammation. So just before my period I notice it gets darker. Endo is awful I hate it. It affects our bodies in so many ways.

Is melasma painful at all or raised off the skin? It must be a nightmare to deal with every day.

No, not at all just brown hyper pigmentation (discoloration) . Just a pain in the ass to cover up with makeup.

Hi I get that on my face and my endo consultant denied it was linked to endo. But I only got it after endo hormonal treatment. Sorry you lot have it too but I feel a bit less crazy !!!

Worth seeing whether it Is hormone related. I have had post inflammatory hyperpigmentation since taking the pill about 10 years ago. Despite stopping the pill, the marks/bruising appearance of the hyperpigmentation is deeper at times during my cycle and when stressed.

Hopefully you find out what your Mark is and how to treat it! Xx
