Colonoscopy

I went to Guys Hospital yesterday and after 14 years I think I have finally found a hospital who actually care and have a proper plan in place for me. They want to do an MRI and a colonoscopy as I have bowel symptoms such as stabbing pains up the bum and bleeding from the bum on my period. I am really dreading this one the most, has anyone ever had one before?

I’ve had one, it was honestly nowhere near as difficult an experience as I was anticipating. It wasn’t painful at all for me. Please try not to worry, I wish I hadn’t worried as much as I did beforehand because it was honestly fine. Obviously there are more enjoyable ways to spend your day but my fears were far far worse than the reality of a very straightforward procedure which was over and done with very quickly xxx

The worse bit is prepping the day before - the stuff they give you to cleanse the bowel really works!! Just be near the bathroom ;-)

The procedure is fine, they can give you a sedative so it calms you right down and the pain relief means it doesn’t hurt. Good luck

That’s really reassuring to hear. I have an appointment with Guys to see Prof Rymer soon. I have similar symptoms so I’m glad you’ve found they’re addressing things throughly. I have had a MRI before and i hated it but haven’t had the other procedure. I hope you get some answers.

I had a colonoscopy yesterday. I psyched myself up for it the week before and was very nervous. The prep is the worst of it although it wasn’t as bad as I imagined. If you follow the prep correctly then everything will be ok. The procedure wasn’t as bad as I was worrying about. I had sedation and a pain killer. I admit that when the air gets blown up inside it is painful but it goes away quite quickly. You will be fine (unless you have already had it done since)? Good luck. 😊
