Endometriosis operation

Hi girls,

I'm due to have my first laparoscopy in just under 2 weeks and I reading through all the paperwork that I've been given regarding the whole procedure. I'm unsure what the differences are between endometriosis ablation and endometriosis excision? I wondered if you have both or just one or the other? What is the most common and what have you guys had done? x

So which is used is mostly depend on your surgeons skill/ training.

The difference is ablation is burning what they see so think of it like cutting a weed down to be level with the ground. Where as excision is cutting it out so more like taking the roots of the weed out too. Excision is generally seen as being the best option as it takes more of the effected tissue out.

Ablation is a laser burning it off. Excision is cutting it out. From what I’ve read (currently reading “The Doctor Will See You Now” which I RECOMMEND) excision is the gold standard. Ablation will not give you relief for long because the root of the endo is still there. Excision will get rid of all of it - when I eventually get my lap, I’m going to make sure if anything is found and wanting to be removed there and then, that it will be excised, not removed by ablasion xx

An endometrial ablation is when they burn away the lining of your womb but make sure u do not want any more children because u can’t after this

Endometrial excision is when the remove the endometriosis

I’m 17, I don’t have any children! I don’t want them for at least another 5 years! Does this mean if I have ablation I won’t be able to have children?

There's 2 types of ablation one is for the lining of your womb. The other is to burn away the endo on the outside of your womb.

The one for the lining of your womb is to thin it, usually used for when women have very heavy periods..

Even though they remove the endometriosis does not mean that it won’t come back

Pregnancy is not likely after ablation, but it can happen. If it does, the risks of miscarriage and other problems are greatly increased. If a woman still wants to become pregnant, she should not have this procedure. Women who have endometrial ablation should use birth control until after menopause.

Look it up I have had this done and I was asked do I want more children when I said no they said they would do the op

Well do'nt go with ablation,endo come back very quickely after that, excision is more beneficial and its make no diffrence in your fertility, excision does'nt mean it destroy your fertility.But pls avoid ablation.Good luck girl x

Hi,

Good luck with your operation, hope it goes well for you. Wishing you a speedy recovery. I have had both done and each time endo has come back. Maybe my surgeon missed an endo that he couldn't see.
