Hello ,

I just wanted to give my experience with the auto immune protocol diet. It has changed my life.

I've suffered from terrible period pains and nausea since I was 13. Then I went on the pill for 13 years.

When I stopped the pill, the pain came back. Went to hospital twice in a year in 2017 . They wanted to remove my appendix and I had to beg them not to do it and had to sign a discharge note.later on, a scan showed a 5cm endometrioma and laat year I finally received my first diagnosis: deep endometriosis ( 20 years later!)

Anyway, I was so fed up with the pain and having to take a huge dose on anti inflammatory every month that I started to look at the root cause of endometriosis.

Some scholars think that it is a autoimmune disease which makes perfect sense to me. Looking for lifestyle changes, i came across the autoimmune diet (AIP).

This diet aims to cure the root cause of many auto immune diseases: leaky gut.

When you embark on this diet , you have to remove a great deal of food ( you can check this online) . And you are meant to reintroduce each aliments on their own, one by one ( again plenty of websites explaining the protocol online)

After 2 months on the diet, my period stopped hurting , I felts less exhausted, was in a much better mood, better sleep too.

My endometrioma shrank to 1cm and my ovaries are not touching anymore. No more diarrhea, too

I haven't taken a single ibuprofen in 14months!

I just want everyone to try this diet. It's seems very restrictive and it is. You will have to spend a lot of time cooking and preparing food. The hunger goes away after a month. It is not a carb free diet. And you can still eat quite a bit.

I have tried to reintroduce some food I had not idea I was deeply intolerant to like potatoes, Cheese, almonds and tomatoes.

The week I tried potatoes, my period were very painful for the first time in a year. I believe that my gut health and endometriosis pain are deeply linked. I also had joints pain which stop during the diet.

I recommend every one with agonising pain to try this diet. It has changed my quality of life and I do not dread my periods anymore.

Is this similar to low FODMAP?

It isn't as you are still allowed to have them.

The diet is also focused on healing your gut

Here is a non exhaustive list of food you should remove initially and then try to reintroduce them one by one :

Gluten, all grains, coffee, alcohol , all nuts, potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, aubergine, spices, seeds, dairy, pulses. I'm sure I forgotten some...

Ok to have: root vegetables, most veggies, good quality and preferably organic meat and fish.

Then , after 3months you starts reintroducing everything you've removed one by one and monitor your well-being and symptoms.

It takes a v long time but it's the only way of knowing what you are intolerant to.

I've learned so much about what my body dislike.
