Can't wait but I'm scared

So apparently the wait list for laparoscopy on NHS is 18 weeks but I've been signed off work already due to the amount of pain I'm in and can't afford to not work for the next 4 months! I only get paid 1 months sick leave so taking that long off is not an option.

I have an appointment with private consultant on Saturday with a view to have the lap ASAP. However my partner is not keen on getting into debt for it understandably, but there's no way I can cope for that long in this pain with two children to look after.

I'm also scared that we will pay a lot of money and they don't even find anything, what then?! I just don't know what to do 😭

Hi sorry to hear your in so much pain I’m in a similar situation to you I’ve gone private and he was brilliant arranged to have a mri and lap in a few weeks time it would of been next week but he’s away.

I had a lap on the nhs years ago and waited nearly a year and couldn’t put myself through that again, going private in my opinion is worth the money and I’ve chosen to see a specialist in endo as my last lap was just general gyne.

You can always discuss this Saturday with the consultant as see what he says as mine works for the nhs and said I would be waiting months on nhs with him.

Hope this helps you x

I was put on the waiting list on 20th Feb and I have just found out I will be having the operation on 15th April, I'm going on holiday in May but I don't want to cancel my appointment in case it take months to get another one.

I was having private fertility treatment but they moved me on to the NHS for the laparoscopy and I haven't been waiting that long.

Sorry to hear about this. I was in a similar situation and needing more and more time off work. I waited around 24 weeks for my laparoscopy, I knew it was a long waiting time. Pain relief was my main priority and then fertility as I have no children. My work do not have good sick leave due to working in the third sector but I have a very understanding manager. I have now been diagnosed with extensive endometriosis that infiltrated most places including my bowel, which needs more investigation. My new consultant wants me to go back on the pill for a few weeks, as well as painkillers until we can plan more and get more scans. I didn’t want to go back on the pill ,but now I will do anything to get rid of the pain. So there’s the pill? That could help any extra tissue growing and stop cycles? I kept ringing up my consultant and got hold of my consultants secretary as well? Maybe that’s something you could do? It’s terribly frustrating and unfortunately for me, I had a very lazy first consultant who didn’t take me seriously. Keep ringing them up!!! Hope you get some support soon x

The pain must be excruciating! I'm sorry, you've had to go through it. I really hope your luck turns around. You definitely do deserve better. Let me know if I can be of any kind of help. You should talk to me if you feel like it. I really hope it all happens! It would be a great story.

Thank you all for your comments, I appreciate you all taking the time to read and reply. I've spoken to the consultants secretary eventually (took 10 days to actually get hold of her) and she said if my GP sent an email to consultant he could review and maybe put me down as more urgent, but the wait list even then is still weeks away. I phoned the doctors again in tears earlier because the pain is just getting worse, and they've given me tramadol to try.

I'm hoping with the email being sent I'll get an NHS appointment soon, but if not I'll be paying for private so I can hopefully get a diagnoses and treatment and get on with my life! Xxx
