Painkillers for endo

Just wondered if anyone can advice me what to do... currently on the waiting list to see an endo specialist at the Birmingham Womens Hospital, in the meantime i’ve had 30mg/500mg of co-codamol prescribed (the strongest form i think) and it is helping alot with my pain, the only painkiller that has actually touched me... however i get nausea and vomiting every time i take it🤢🤢 i have to choose if to be in pain or to feel/be sick. Can anyone recommend another form of painkiller that has worked for them or something that can settle down this nausea and sickness? Thank you!

Hi! Cocodamol makes me very sick too. I've found that codeine has worked well for my pain recently. Over the years, I was religious in taking mefenamic acid and topping this up with over the counter meds in between breaks but codeine seems to be working for me at the moment and hasn't had a negative effect on me so far! People say it can give them bad constipation or make you feel dizzy but I've not suffered with either!

Hope your appointment comes around for you shortly :)

Btw I've not been diagnosed with endo but suffer horrendously every month and inside the month at times so awaiting a laparoscopy xx

Hi Emma, take a look at some of my other posts regarding meds and pain relief. In your case if the co-codamol is working, try and stick with it but ask for an anti-sickness tablet. Does your Gp have a phone appt line? If so, tell them what you have just said and ask whether anti/sickness could be added and I’m certain they would want to try that first. Also, I have found in past that it can upset my stomach, so I aso take it with food or a drink of milk. Hope that helps. If not, then come back to me.

Blessings, Elise. X

I was given Ponstan Forte (as Faith27 has said, it's the other name for it) by my GP for the pain and it helped tremendously.

It also helps to make sure you eat something substantial before taking co codamol or mefamenic acid , as it can make you feel quite weak along with the nausea. Sometimes if I don't have much of an appetite and need to take these painkillers, try taking with a glass of milk.

Hey, could you go back to your specialist / GP and mention the sickness? If the painkiller combination is working they can give you things to help the sickness as it is a common side effect.

When I did that with my painkillers they prescribed omazeprole to counter the sickness - it works by blocking the effects of the painkiller on the stomach. I take it once in the morning for that day. I only need to take painkillers around my period though so a box of 28 lasts me about 4 cycles.

As others have said some painkillers are best taken with food as the meal settles the stomach too
