How quickly can Endo return?

Hi all,

I’m an Aussie Endometriosis sufferer, and I had my second lap surgery in early April. My doctor is an expert in the field of surgery for Endo and he identified my ‘IBS’ symptoms were actually that of Endo. He was right and I’ve been really well until about two weeks ago. I’ve started to get gut symptoms again and occasional cramping. I’m under a lot of stress at the moment so I’m not sure if that’s the cause for the gut issues. I have PCOS and a Mirena so I’m not so fussed on the cramping. I just wondered if anyone has had their Endo come back so soon? It was cut out, not ablated and the Dr said it was quite extensive (didn’t get a stage). I just feel stupid going back to see him so soon. Would love if anyone can share any insight.

Thanks guys!

Hiya,

There simply isn't enough research on Endometriosis for anyone to really know and I'm currently having a similar problem with my surgeon, though my pain has returned after 2 years, not 6 months.

It's difficult when someone essentially rides in on a white horse to finally give you a diagnosis and take your pain away to then second guess them but no one knows your body better than you.

I have gained considerable weight during my recovery and my surgeon is currently blaming my cramps on being fat! Now I'm in a bind because he feels he's the authority on endo and he's the best surgeon in the UK so I would have to go abroad to get a second opinion. I've also been dieting to lose weight to prove my pain is real but I worry I'm racing the clock before my endo is out of control again.

I would suggest you go back to your doctor and be much firmer with them than I was with mine! After all the pain you've suffered what's one more laparoscopy for your peace of mind? Stress can cause cramps but it can also exacerbate your endo growth.

Thanks for your insight 😊

I’ve decided to wait for a bit because my symptoms aren’t that severe (yet) and see how I travel. I have a referral ready for whenever I need it.
