Diagnosed endo 09.10.18-doctor also said I have severe constipation?

Hello everyone,

Ever since I started my periods I always suffered with pain, which got progressively worse within the last 3 years. I am 24 years old now. I knew something was wrong when I started getting severe pain and bowel movements during the period, sweat would start projecting off me, I would start being sick whilst simotaniously having diarrhoea. The pain was agonising, the type of pain where you try to call out for help but you can’t get the words out. My parents wouldn’t know what to do with me apart from calling an ambulance. I would feel faint and the colour would completely drain from my skin.

Fast forward, after going to the doctors and being turned away time and time again. I finally met a gyno doctor who sympathised with me and believed me although every test and scan came back completely clear.

I had keyhole surgery a couple of days ago, and I know this sounds crazy but I was so thankful they found the endo (because finally I had a reason for the pain). They found it on both ovaries, one of which they couldn’t remove it entirely as it was too dangerous. But what they were most concerned about was the fact I was ‘severely constipated’, they didn’t mention the fact that constipation is a symptom of endo (I’ve googled it since and seen many women say this is a common thing). I’m currently waiting for laxitives. I feel a little concerned at fact that the hospital staff didn’t mention that this was a common symptom of endo.

Has anyone on here suffered with my sickness symptoms/constipation?

Thank you for reading

Yes! I bleed with bowel movements. I was referred to hospital with that and he referred me to gyno etc. I'm worried because my "Butt Dr" (He also came in on my laparoscopy) hasn't found any cause for the bleeding and my gynae only found 1 spot of endo. I'm still in the same pain I was before and, if anything, the bleeding is worse!

Painkillers make your constipation worse. I have found Lactulose works wonders! and Dulcolax to keep you regular x

Thank you so much for replying!! I was 90% certain that they were going to tell me that my womb had attached itself to the bowel! Not that I just had endo on the ovaries! The doctors gave me no explanation as to why it’s so bad, especially on my period! I do take a lot of painkillers which may explain why this has happened!! Thanks again and I will definitely try your recommendations!!

I hope they find the problem for you soon, it’s such a horrible condition 😢

It’s my main symptom! But I have an endometrioma (6x4cm) on my left ovary I am waiting to be removed. I find taking a daily tablet of senna (7.5mg), eating lots of pulses and vegetables, and exercise helps most of the time - but during ovulation - it’s absolutely terrible! I can go for 5 days without a bowel movement and my abdomen grows by about 2 sizes.

Oh, also - the vomiting, faintness, colour draining from the face - all me too. Gynae thinks it’s pain related.

Thank you so much for your reply! I am so sorry you suffer from the same thing, it gives me so much anxiety that it might happen to me in work or when I’m out and about. I was surprised when they said it wasn’t on my bowel because I couldn’t understand why I was in so much pain! Thank you for your advise

I’ve Stage 4 diagnosed earlier this year. Flaxseed on cereal/yoghurt every morning plus fruit and regular exercise helps me.
