Hi I have an appointment for gynae, next few days. I am pushing for laproscopy. Any questions I should ask. Its my 2nd gynae appointment
Gynae appointment. : Hi I have an... - Endometriosis UK
Gynae appointment.
Hey, ask questions like
Will you check everywhere during the lap?
How will you remove endo if found?
What would my treatment plan be afterwards?
They will only do a laparoscopy if you have tried a bunch of hormone treatment and painkillers. Surgery tends to be last resort.
princessk09 covers the main ones
Check that they are going to remove endo in the same op; most places do the diagnostic then discuss treatment before removal of endo. You can push for both at the same time.
How will you remove endo is a good one - ideally you want excision as this removes the most - endo and surrounding tissue. Other options are ablation (sanding / air) - removes the top layer only, and then there's laser (diathermy / heat) - removes the top few layers.
Ask how many ops they have done before, if they are performing the op.
Ask what are the timeframes they have seen women come back with symptoms after removal of endo
Ask what their preferred treatment method after removal of endo is. It's a good idea to think about what you'd like when you're fully healed and going forward; hormones implant or tablets, just pain management, nothing and see how it goes for the next year or so (I did the latter).
