Nobody else understands what we go through 🙁

I’m only 24 and I have Endometriosis, and the symptoms are getting worse while I’m waiting to see the specialist about a second laparoscopy.

Aside from my boss who completely understands, the rest of my work colleagues think I’m really dull and boring because I don’t eat take aways and greasy food at lunch, and I barely ever drink alcohol anymore.

They keep making comments about how I should “live a little” and they ask if I’m pregnant just because I’m not drinking but they don’t understand that I don’t eat and drink those things because they make all the symptoms worse!

I don’t want to tell them about my condition so I have to just put up with the comments but it really gets to me ☹️ Nobody ever seems to understand that it’s fine for a 24 year old to be healthy and not drink and they never think that maybe there’s a reason behind it!

Hi BethanyAnn I totally get where you are coming from, it’s really nobodies business & it’s up to you if you divulge your illness to your colleagues. It’s quite sad that people can’t see that you want to eat healthy/don’t drink without them

assuming you are pregnant (which can be hurtful too) as with this disease that’s not always possible. Really let them think what they want, most colleagues you only speak to because you work together and probably wouldn’t choose to socialise outside of work x

Tell them your a recovering alcoholic and that you can't eat a takeaway with out a drink either!

On a more serious note though!

I know it can feel isolating, but it's your choice if you want to discuss your personal issues with colleagues or not. They should not be making judgements about what you want/ not want to eat or drink. It's more often than not because they feel they are eating the wrong foods and drinks. I remember in the staffroom loads of cakes every Friday and I'd always say no thank you, they would say things like, 'go on, it's just one' but I had an issue with being extremely overweight. Sometimes it is more about them trying to justify their bad habits by expecting everyone to join in!

Stay strong, I'd rather refuse than be in more pain, I stopped drinking alcohol because it was aggregating my symptoms too.

Good luck, nothing worse than colleagues sometimes xx

Thank you everyone, I have considered telling them but I don’t want to open up a world of questions and even more judgment from them.

I’ll try to ignore it 🙂 xx
