Clear Ultrasound?

I've previously had surgery for extensive endometriosis 5 years ago and I'm in the midst of some sort of large pain flare up at the moment involving my bowel. I've had an upset stomach and pain/discomfort for over 2 weeks now.

I managed to see the wonderful consultant who treated me previously last Thursday & going on my symptoms/my medical history he judged it very likely to be endometriosis again & asked me to return the following day for an ultrasound scan.

Surprisingly the doctor who carried out the ultrasound could not locate any endometriosis & judged everything to appear as it should do.

Is it common to have a clear ultrasound but still have endometriosis? I've been through this process before but I can't remember what my scans showed as it was 5+ years ago now! I'm returning to see the consultant to discuss where we go from here on Thursday & I very much trust his opinion, but am curious in the meanwhile if it's likely he'll decide endometriosis could still be present...

Sorry to hear you are in lots of pain. From my knowledge the reason endometriosis is so hard to diagnose in first place is because it doesn’t show up on any scans or blood tests. Unless the endometriosis causes cysts also called chocolate cysts or endometriomas, then the scan will appear normal. Unfortunately only way to find out is lapascopic surgery- but you should discuss with your doctor. Hope this info helps and you get some answers soon.

Hey All of my ultrasounds & internal scans came back with no signs of Endometriosis. In the end the only way it was discovered/removed for me was via Laparoscopy. Hope this helps!
