Hello,

I had my lap 1 month ago today. My belly button still really hurts. Is this normal?

Wow! 4 years later?! :O

What sort of pain is it you get?

The last 2 weeks have been fine but the last couple of days my belly button has been really sore and uncomfortable. I may need further surgery in a couple of months to remove my ovary and fallopian tube so I assume it will be going through the belly button again! :(

Thanks for responding sweet.

I actually went to the doctors yesterday because I was in so much pain at work and didn’t sleep the night before.

The doctor had a look as well having a poke, prod, pull and pinch (ouch) and she said she thinks it’s fibroids attached to the tissue and I could have stretched and it tore away a bit.

It has always hurt but the last few days the pain gradually got worse which I found really strange. It’s so uncomfortable 😞

Her words were “take paracetamol and forget about it” easier said than done though.

I bought a pregnancy pillow just after my op because I couldn’t sleep or get comfortable so that is at least helping a little at night. Just a shame, as 2 weeks ago I was feeling amazing and now I feel like I did a couple of days after surgery. To think I may have to go through all of this again in a few months 😩 I can’t wait...

Thank you sweet!

That pillow is my best friend at night. I think everyone should get one haha.

I have no idea. I assume they will be going through my belly button again. I’m seeing my consultant in a couple of weeks for my follow up appointment so I should know more then and I will ask that. I never even thought about it. I don’t even know what they are. I try not to google things as you always get the worst case scenario but I may just have to google this one.

You left your phone at home... I wouldn’t have been able to do that! I didn’t google or anything though, I was good! I did watch videos of laparoscopy surgery when it was first mentioned to me by my doctor but as soon as my consultant mentioned it to me, I didn’t watch any videos. I did watch LLETZ or whatever it was and it petrified me haha. I watched videos the day after my surgery and felt incredible sick and traumatised. I just find it weird that I was cut, prodded and poked about with things and all sorts went on and I was not aware of any of it.

How long ago did you have a laparoscopy? Are you feeling much better now?

Was your second lap worst than the first? Do they go through the exact same places as before? It freaks me out that they went through the belly button. I was hoping to forget about it and not ever think of it again but it’s kind of hard when it hurts! 😞

What about the other incisions? Did they cut through the scar from first lap? I’m worried I’ll look like a pin cushion. 3 laps, bless you. 😩 I hope all goes well for you!

That’s crazy. I was given an appointment mid October but it has been bought forward and my consultant is seeing me after clinic hours. You have so long to wait. Have you called up to see if they have any cancellations?

Oh bless you. I hope you didn’t get pains all throughout that 2 weeks! Bloating sucks! I actually considered buying maternity clothes because I bloat so bad!

I’m actually ok thank you sweet. Sleeping better at night now which makes a massive difference. I can only wear about 4 outfits as my belly button is ever so sensitive but that’s fine. My period is late 🙄 it was on time last month. Apart from that, the only change I have noticed is I don’t get horrendous pain before a bowel movement. In surgery they discovered my left fallopian tube was twisted and cut off the blood supply to my left ovary so it is no longer functioning. I feel emotional and it makes me feel a bit sh*t but I’m trying to remain positive 😬

Oh that’s a bugger. I always tend to remember things when it’s out of hours, typical!

Ouch! You poor thing. Are you logging your pains and symptoms? Let’s hope the pains you’re getting is recovery related, the last thing you want is for it to all come back again. I hope you manage to get an earlier appointment or at least the time goes fast for you.

Aww, I know the feeling far too well. I tried jeans on last week and I didn’t even attempt to do the buttons up. They felt clingy instantly and off they came.

Unfortunately, no. At the time of my lap, my ovary was barely visible because the blood supply had been cut off for so long due to the twisted fallopian tube. I’m gutted it wasn’t found sooner but I still have a functioning right ovary. The only issue I have now is, if I were to fall pregnant, I could have an ectopic pregnancy. I don’t know what other risks there are as when she told me about my ovary, my hearing went weird and fuzzy and I didn’t listen to hardly anything else she said. I think it was the shock. So I have so many questions to ask at my follow up appointment. She wants to remove it by the sounds of it but I want to know her reasons and the pros and cons of leaving it. I just fear that something will happen to my right ovary now. It’s frightening. Many people live with one ovary and conceive naturally so I do have to stay positive and just take each day as it comes.

I didn’t realise you replied, oops!

I’m pleased things eased for you although it’s probably all changed again now.

I can deal with pain really well but there have been a few times where I’ve been in a lot of pain.

I remember my consultant saying about IVF but I had just come out of surgery and she could have said anything. So it is something I am sure we will discuss. My follow up appointment is tomorrow/today (5th) and I cannot sleep. I am so nervous!!! I don’t know what to expect.

Have you managed to get an earlier follow up appointment yet?
