Amatriptaline 10mg anyone else taking this?

I am just recovering from lap and endo diagnosis and 3 weeks in still getting same endo pains together with expected post op pain. Desperate to stop codine when im in pain as im worried about being addicted (been on it for 10 months) but also because it makes my bowels really sluggish. Frustrated at slow recovery super lethargic. Saw gp today and surprised to find they are more supportive post diagnosis. Feels odd to feel "believed". Anyway, they prescribed amatriptaline to help with the pain i experience as i get nerve based pain and aparently even though its traditionally an antidepressant its aparently good for this?

She said that as a bonus it should also help take the edge of the anxiety i have been feeling.

Just curious if anyone else has had success with this drug and how they find taking it?

Yes - I’ve been taking 20mg at night for a couple of weeks. I’m not sure it’s helping much with the pain (yet?) but definitely helping me sleep better. This is a big help for me as am starting to feel less exhausted.

I’ve just added pregabalin into the mix. It takes a few weeks to work apparently - not sure if amitryptaline works in the same way?

Well i took first little blue pill last night. Cant say it helped the pain as such but made me so sleepy that i just slept 12 hours straight. (I did have 5 days sleep to catch up on mind). Lol

Although first used as an antidepressant, Amitriptyline is now used mainly as a painkiller and to help sleep. It is one of the main drugs for the successful treatment of fibromyalgia, as it dulls the overly-sensitive nerve-endings, in the muscles of the blood vessels, that cause much of the pain. Though far too much of a stupor-inducing overkill when used in large amounts for depression, Amitryp. is also good for muscle tension, migraines and sleeplessness. My GP gave it to me when menopausal hot-flushes were stopping me sleeping and thus inducing horrendous headaches. I found it a lifesaver. She gave me 10mg tablets, but also suggested chopping them into halves or quarters if I found I was too dopey with a whole tablet. It saved my life as my night sweats were killing me.

Hope it helps you.

I took it ages ago. Helped a little with my sleep and a little with my pain, but not a huge amount.

It did however make me hungry, so much so I was going down stairs in the middles of the night and eating whatever I could. It was like I hadn’t eaten in days. Came off it as I was getting married and didn’t want to put on more weight. Also got headaches from it.

Oh dont tell me that....the only positive side effect of my endo has been the weight loss! 😂

Side affects don’t happen in everyone :)

Hi I’m a training pharmacy tech and amitriptyline at a low dose, such as yours, is used to treat nerve pain however because it also has anti depressant affects it should help with any anxiety!

Hopefully you are taking it at night time? As it can make you feel very sleep.

Years ago I took it for an accident I had which injured my back and it seemed to work well for that! Hopefully it will for you too xxx
